Across the battlefield, Elide & Lorcan make eye contact for a moment. Her eyes seek out his, onyx eyes searching for their twins.
The pleading expression that has drawn his eyebrows together, it breaks her heart. The sudden desperation makes her feel as if her lungs have collapsed. A small fire ignites in her chest, & she tries to breathe as he reaches out a hand towards her.
She wants to tell him that she loves him, that she understands why he betrayed her queen of fire—that the connection between them must be a mating bond because every second without him is an eternity of apprehension.
And then she looks down, tilting her head as she notices something out of the ordinary. Realizing what he's been gazing at, she reaches back towards him & smiles.
Lorcan screams as his mate crumbles to the ground, an arrow sprouting from her chest.
