who would've thought?
the quiet, lonely y/n who never opened up
was now crying on a boy she loved so deeply.
she pulled away from his shirt and stared at the teardrop stains in embarrassment.
she hated crying.
she hated how idiotic she looked and how it made her head throb.
but when mike smiled at her with no hint of falseness,
she couldn't stop her lips from turning into a smile as well.
his thumb found his way to her cheek,
where he wiped away the stray tears,
"you wanna see something i found the other day?"
he asked with his hand still to her cheek.
she leaned the weight of her head into his hand,
where he continued to caress her cheek.
she then nodded her head.
mike hurried to his feet,
pulling a photo out of his drawer.
it was a four year old mike with his head stuck in the ring of a toilet seat,
with a smile so hard she couldn't help but laugh loudly.
"oh my god! you were so adorable."
he shook his head,
blushing in embarrassment.
"i'm still adorable! and you know it."
he grinned,
nudging her shoulder.
"if you say so."
she giggled though her eyes never left the picture.
they both laughed for a couple minutes,
letting the sounds of their happiness echo throughout the room.
the sounds sent a shiver down mike's spine.
he loved seeing y/n in this new light.
he liked being the sole reason for her happiness.
he'd move heaven and earth to see that smile.
mike only hoped she knew how far he'd go for her.
when their laugher then died down,
his hand attached itself to hers.
she felt her body warm up quickly,
and her head flushed with adrenaline.
"mike."
"y/n."
their eyes locked and suddenly time had slowed.
"how would you know you're falling in love with someone?"
she asked with a shy smile.
"i don't know actually. i think you would feel it before you actually realize. the world would be brighter, you'd see colors better, pizza would taste better, dnd would, if possible, become more fun."
he explained.
y/n felt the sudden urge to find his lips against hers,
and let the word no longer exist.
but in fear of ruining their friendship,
the one thing that kept y/n happy,
she suppressed that urge.
"guess who's here!"
lucas exclaimed,
bursting into mikes room.
mikes hand quickly left hers,
and left it on the bed to grow cold.
she became confused,
but ultimately decided to worry about it later.
her friends were here now,
and that was a great feeling within its own
"hey guys!"

"hey, y/n,"
will whispered.
"hey, will."
"can i tell you something?"
she nodded her head,
"of course."
but she should've stuck to her two rules.
one: don't open up to anyone.
two: don't let anyone open up to you.
but y/n fucked up.
she fucked up big.
"after hanging with you so much, ive started to...have feelings for you. but, you seem close with mike, and i just don't wanna ruin anything. but, i like you, y/n. a lot."
