y/n packed her bags and stuffed them into the back of the government car,
then turned to look back at her friends with a smile she was forcing.
but it didn't last long.
once mike began to cry,
y/n's eyes flooded and spilled over.
and soon,
the rest of the group was melting into a pile of sniffles and tears.
she hugged them all,
scared to let go.
she didn't want to leave this life behind.
she wanted to be in mikes bed again,
where they'd spend hours talking and laughing as one,
or in the basement of his house with the rest of her friends.
they'd go back to normal,
like nothing had happened.
but here she stood,
trying to wipe everyone's tears away,
and leaving them in this broken city.
her eyes connected with mike's for just a split second before he roughly pushed his lips to hers.
making sure it was a kiss she'd never forget.
only, how could she forget mike?
he had been the only one there for her on her roughest of days.
the light in her darkest days.
"i love you."
"i love you too, mike."
"don't you ever, ever forget me."
he smiled sadly,
holding her close to him.
"i couldn't. even if i wanted to."
she softly cried into his shoulder.
"y/n, it's time to go..."
y/n hesitantly pulled away,
then ran her hands down mike's body in hopes of being able to memorize it when she was away.
before she slipped out of his embrace,
he laid his forehead to hers with sad eyes,
"god as my witness, we'll meet again. i'll track you down if i have to."
"until we meet again, mike wheeler."
"until then, y/n l/n."
he laid a kiss to her lips that sent her stomach fluttering.
before she got into the black car.
her heart dropped into her stomach,
disassembling into tiny fragments that would never be recovered.
she cried as the car drove away from the life she loved.
and away from the boy she loved,
she looked into her bag to find a tissue,
only stumbling across a yellow sweatshirt belonging mike wheeler.
and on top,
a note:
"so you won't forget me."
she cried into it like she had once done many days ago,
and the scent had been comforting now as it was then.
"it's only you, mike wheeler. only you."

only you. (m.w)Where stories live. Discover now
