"wake up! wake up!"
my eyes opened slowly to a smiling mike,
where i couldn't fight the smile of my own.
"morning."
but the discord of a sad sob next to me rang out.
i turned my head to see the source of the piercing cry,
and there my eyes met will.
"will,"
i whispered out.
he sniffled,
and was then swallowed into the darkness.
i yelled out for him,
but nothing came out.
i screamed repeatedly in hopes he'd return,
only nothing left my mouth.
i looked at the mike in front of me in worry,
but his face was plastered in disappointment.
"don't you love me, y/n?"
"mike! you have to get will!"
"don't you love me, y/n?"
"no! no! i don't! get will! get him back!"
i grew nauseous and my head was spinning.
the darkness pulled mike back as well.
i couldn't help but scream again,
though i knew no sound left past my lips.
my whole world turned black.
i lost them.
mike.
will.
i looked to my left and met with lucas and dustin.
"this is your fault!"
they chorused.
i begged and pleaded with them,
but they, too, were swallowed.

she sat up quickly,
letting her eyes adjust to the darkness.
her head began to spin while panting.
y/n quickly wiped the tears from her eyes and looked around,
realizing just how dark it was.
panic settled within her.
her hands searched around the bed frantically for mike,
and didn't stop until her hand soon fell upon his chest.
the sudden, quick contact woke him up,
and there he met a worried y/n.
"hey, hey,"
he spoke,
sitting up to level with her.
her breathing had slowed at the sound of his voice.
but she couldn't fight the guilt.
she dreamt about will in all the wrong ways.
where she prioritized him over mike,
and everyone had to pay for her mistakes.
she began to wonder if her love for will was overpowering her love for mike,
and it was festering into her dreams.
do i love him?
why did i tell him i don't love him?
dreams mean something...right?
so what does this mean?!
"what's wrong?"
mike asked,
letting his hand lace with hers beneath the cover.
the contact caused her to flinch,
and her guilt became suffocating.
y/n suddenly couldn't breathe.
she felt horrible.
"love."
she always liked hearing that from mike.
"i lost you,"
she finally mumbled out.
"it was just a nightmare."
"no...i lost you."
she repeated,
still in shock.
"and...will."
"will?"
he questioned.
"will left. you left. dustin and lucas too."
mike wrapped his arm around her neck and pulled y/n into his chest,
where she felt at peace.
"i never left you, y/n. and i never will."

the next morning,
the kids both arrived to school on mikes bike.
y/n saw will first,
but he hurried to trudge away from the group.
"what's wrong with will?"
lucas asked.
y/n lowered her head,
"i...i screwed him over."
everyone's eyes trailed to her,
leaving her to explain the way she hurt him.
"i'm sure he'll get over it, y/n. don't blame yourself,"
lucas suggested with a pat to her shoulder.
"yeah! will's tougher than you think. he'll come around."
and though she allowed a small smile to come to her lips,
it faltered quickly.
nothing could erase the guilt and pain within her.
"hey, i know you're upset but..don't blame yourself, okay?"
mike smiled that bright smile of his,
wrapping his arm around her.
"you two official now?"
dustin asked.
mike smiled proudly,
"hm, what do you say, y/n? be my girlfriend?"
y/n let out a soft chuckle,
"y-yeah."
she then kept quiet to his side.
confusion settled within her.
and doubt had never been stronger.
