"he said he liked you?"
mike asked the hurt girl in front of him,
pacing the floor in front of her.
she was sure if he didn't stop soon,
he was going to wear the floor out from beneath him.
she slowly nodded her throbbing head,
"yeah."
mike was angry.
angry that will did that behind his back.
will knew how mike felt
but that wasn't all,
mike was angry y/n was upset.
she didn't deserve to be in the middle of this.
not with everyone going on in her life.
how could he?!
he thought loudly.
"i feel like i've ruined everything,"
y/n admitted quietly.
mike lifted his head,
the anger escaping his body as he stared into her sad eyes.
"ruined what, exactly?"
she shrugged with a frown,
and mike could see the faint tremble in her bottom lip.
"you and will...you and i."
"y/n,"
mike breathed out,
taking a seat next to her and holding her hand.
except y/n didn't hold it back.
"i should have never moved here. i should have never befriended you, i should have never fallen in love you. i should have never told mom!"
the girl continued while anger blinded her.
mike's heart broke into pieces,
not because of her words,
but because of the pain behind him.
he pulled the girl into a hug.
he didn't let her go,
and didn't plan to anytime soon.
y/n was allowing him to see her most vulnerable self,
and he wasn't going to back away now.
y/n wanted to pull away from mike.
she wanted to scream at the world.
but she laid in his arms,
allowing herself to feel every emotion that coursed her veins.
and as mike held her tight,
she fell limp in his arms.
"mike, i'm sorry. i didn't mean any of that."
mike gave her a tight squeeze,
and let his fingertips caress her arm.
"it's okay, y/n. you're fine."
he felt his heart sink.
it was an all too familiar scene.
"you didn't do anything. will's just...dumb."
he smiled as hard as his lips would allow.
"mike?"
"y/n?"
"can..can i sleep over again?"
he kissed the top of her head,
"of course, love. whatever you need."
***
y/n smiled to herself as she laid in mike's bed again.
their sleep overs were becoming so frequent,
his scent was practically ingrained into her skin.
her eyes were heavy but she couldn't sleep,
no matter how hard she tried.
and tonight was different.
she was avoiding sleep,
not because of mike,
but because of the corrupting thoughts.
corrupting thoughts of will byers.
