"you can't be in here!"
"y/n. please don't push me away anymore."
she shook her head in denial.
he had to leave,
and it had to be now.
but she only scoffed,
"maybe there's a reason i'm pushing you away, mike. i don't-don't want to fight anymore. i'm exhausted."
"you don't have to, y/n! you've spent all your life fighting, and i don't want you to anymore. especially not for me when i'm all about you."
"no, i don't believe that."
"i don't care what you believe, it's the truth. seeing her...freaked me out. and it took me back to a place i don't ever want to be in again. i don't want to be with anyone else."
he swiftly got up,
only to put pressure between their lips.
a reassuring kiss.
something y/n loved.
she melted into his embrace despite the pounding anger in her head.
his lips were nothing short of euphoric,
and she swayed to the pulse in her veins.
but as she pulled back to stare into those eyes she loved most,
her suspicions had been confirmed.
"eleven...she's back in the gang, isn't she?"
she asked.
mike grew annoyed.
eleven this.
eleven that.
it wasn't about eleven anymore.
it was y/n.
y/n this.
y/n that.
y/n y/l.
"yeah."
"no..it was only supposed to be us four."
y/n snapped,
growing serious.
"y/n...it's only you. i love you."
his hand held hers,
with her fingers laced.
y/n felt the same spark of happiness she first had when they met.
it had never left.
y/n only tried to bury it.
but apparently she didn't try hard enough.
she connected their lips again.
this time.
longer then any kiss they've had before.
it was deep,
soft,
sweet,
and loving.
y/n loved him.
no matter how much she didn't want to admit it anymore,
she was in love.

"please don't go home,"
mike smiled,
bringing her hand to his lips where he laid small kisses to it.
y/n didn't have a choice.
she knew the social worker was coming tonight and she had to be there.
"i have to."
"fine. just...please sneak out later or something. i have to see you."
she smiled a smile full of love,
then laid a small kiss to his lips.
"okay. i'll come over about one-thirty, okay?"
"okay."
nancy took her home that night.
they talked the whole ride,
not about the obvious bruises covering her skin,
but about more trivial things like school.
as they arrived to her house,
y/n eyed the social services car.
"everything okay?"
nancy asked with her genial smile.
"yeah, yeah."
y/n reassured,
and into the haunted house she went.

the worker was new.
this time it was a young man,
different from her usual.
y/n could tell he was new to this job,
and he had the luxury of meeting with the single most awful family of hawkins.
though he was nice and caring,
he was somewhat firm too.
he pulled y/n away from the family where they could talk in private.
he asked y/n about the bruises,
but she only shrugged.
"i got into a stupid fight at school."
she lied,
hoping it was enough to steer him clear of the truth.
y/n prayed silently,
knowing that if he realized the truth,
she'd be taken away.
ripped away from everything she knew best.
her school.
her friends.
mike.
