y/n fell asleep in his arms after hours of crying.
but mike couldn't sleep.
how could he?
his first love was soon to be gone.
she'd disappear right before him.
out of his hands,
and she'd never return as far as he was aware.
how does one cope with that?
they were practically kids.
how does one deal with such an astonishing heartbreak?
mike thought he would never be okay again,
not after this.
he prayed,
just like y/n did,
and prayed for the universe to work out in her favor.
"hasn't she been through enough? please! keep her here with me,"
he whispered into the stillness of the night,
letting the soft sob escape the depths of his throat.
he knew they were nothing but happy together.
he also it was something he knew he'd never find again,
no matter how hard he searched.

she woke up that dreadful morning with a second of peace,
until she remembered today was another day of hurt.
her heart was broken,
and she was exhausted of living this painful life.
"i don't wanna leave,"
she whispered,
holding onto a sleeping mikes hand.
millions of ideas racked her throbbing brain.
ideas of how to stay here,
stay home.
but she knew none of them would work out in the end.
"hey,"
mike mumbled,
slowly waking up.
"hi."
her smile was light but broken.
"you sleep okay?"
"yeah,"
she lied.
she kept waking up during the night to reassure herself that mike was still here,
and hadn't moved an inch.
"mike...i'm scared."
she admitted.
her heart skipping a few beats.
he sat up,
his eyes shining in the faint sunlight,
and y/n could see the hurt in them.
"i know...but you're still gonna be my y/n, okay? no matter how many miles are between us. because it's only you. and that's all it'll ever be. you."
he squeezed her hand reassuringly.
"i leave next tuesday."
he nodded.
"i love you, y/n. and i'll never stop for as long as i live."
he pulled her into a tight hug,
afraid to let her go again.
"i love you too, mike. i love you too."
