y/n walked down the empty streets,
feeling empty,
incomplete,
down.
"y/n!"
the voices echoed.
she turned on her feet,
meeting with the four boys speeding down the hill on their bikes.
great.
she thought about running away from them,
avoiding every question and avoiding having to lie.
but she decided against it.
she'd never be able to outrun them.
they all stopped around her,
making her shy away from the quick, crowding company.
she knew where their attention remained.
"y/n,"
dustin whispered out with the sorrow coating his tone.
will stared at her with eyes full of hurt.
lucas grew upset and resorted to mumbling insults beneath his breath.
but once she met with mike,
the look he wore hurt more than any beating her family had to offer.
he showed no emotion.
but as she looked a little deeper,
the desolation in his eyes was enough to make her stomach tighten.
"who did this to you?"
will asked.
she only shrugged,
suddenly flushing with embarrassed.
she hadn't come to school for this exact reason,
"got into a small fight with my family is all. nothing big."
she attempted to play off.
but they knew better.
"family fights don't leave you in bruises and burns, y/n,"
lucas spoke angrily.
mikes eyes grew watery,
but she avoided looking into to his eyes any further.
"well, my family's a bit different."
"...y/n. i promised you,"
mike spoke with a crack to his voice.
reluctantly,
y/n looked up at him.
she knew the pain she and her family had caused him.
she wished she could just leave.
leave all of this behind and start anew.
"well...sometimes promises are meant to be broken, mike."
he shook his head,
"no...i was supposed to keep this promise. i should've never let you go home that night."
mike threw the bike on the ground and ran his hands through his hair in anger.
y/n knew it was bigger than about her being hurt.
it was about him and his tangled feelings.
