"Good, Celeste!" Irene said as I'd pulled my claws out with far more ease this time. She sped over to a tree and kicked it at its base, and the poor tree had succumbed to her will, and falled over, birds fleeting away from the scene. In a blur she'd finally made use of the axe she'd brought along, and sliced the tree with such precision into thick, round discs.
I watched her, confusion and anticipation having settled itself into my stomach, and she grimmed darkly. She watched me for a moment.
Suddenly the air was sliced in two by the projectile moving quickly towards me, and without thinking, I threw my hand into the air, swiping at the object, sending it hurling to the ground, instead of it's intended path, leading directly to my head. I had no time to explain as another hurled towards me, the splitting sound of the air sending my body into instinctive motion.
Irene watched me with a proud smile tugging at her lips, and this somewhat dissipated my anger and I rose my hands in question, and she only laughed.
"I want you to use everything I've taught you, your senses are your means of communicating with the enviroment," she said, beginning to pile up the circular discs of wood into satchel she'd brought along with her.
"Instead of re-directing them, like you had been doing them, slice through them," and at this I exclaimed.
"They're inches thick!" I exclaimed, she nodded in acknowledgement, and then she'd disappeared into the trees. Adrenaline began to course through my veins.
I heard it. I turned and raised my arm, barely making a dent in the wood as it tumbled beside me.
"You're afraid," I heard her whisper into my ear, air still settling around her from the disruption her speed had caused. She was gone in a second and I groaned in frustration, as a circular disc pummeled into my shoulder, and my skin exploded into tingles of pain.
I grew frustrated and at the sound of another flying through the air, I'd turned, and sliced clear through it as a roar erupted from my chest. I couldn't help the smile the burst onto my face, and I heard Irene's appraisal from within the trees.
At this, the discs were fired at me relentlessly, and I'd caught each of them, despite the throbbing in my healed arm. We were at it for what seemed like hours, and I couldn't help the smile lingering on my face. I felt powerful. I loved the way it made me come alive , in more than just one way, and I'd embraced the pain from the few misses I'd made.
"That was amazing," Irene had said, as she'd landed back in the clearing from a tall tree.
I beamed at her as she offered me a small hug, before stepping away, the smile disappearing and being replaced with her serious demeanor.
"Combat is in our blood, I don't need to teach you how to fight, but you need to practice," And without a moments notice, her hand, laced with dangerous looking claws was flying through the air, and smashing down on my cheekbone and immediately I went crashing into the ground. I couldn't help the snarl that'd pulled at my lips, and had my on all fours snarling up at Irene who simply smiled.
Her smile momentarily grounded me, and I realized how my body seemed comfortable in this position, my feet planted firmly into the ground, my balls lifted off the ground, ready to spring into action and my hands were splayed out, fingers digging into the earth. The earth seemed to hum with life between my fingers and I noticed how my senses had sharpened, and it scared me somewhat, the power that had been lurking within me all along. I'd slowly started to straighten up, only for Irene to growl at me, freezing me in position.
