I’m two months as of today. I can’t believe this, it’s insane. I’m going for my two-month check-up and Christina’s going with me to get her one-month. It’s amazing, I actually feel a bit pregnant. I have a tiny little baby bump.

“Are you ready?” I hear Chrissy yell from the other room.

“Yeah! I’m going into the car right now!” I yell back. Chrissy’s been talking non-stop about this check up. Nick’s coming, but he’s meeting us there. School is starting in a few weeks, and I’ve never been dreading it this much. By then, I’ll be almost three months and showing more. Chrissy jumped into the car, startling me.

“Aren’t you excited? You can see your babies! I know I’m excited.” She says. I didn’t know it was possible for a person to talk as fast at she’s talking. She keeps chatting the entire ride there. When we finally park the car, Nick’s standing outside the door holding a bouquet of flowers. Sometimes I wish I was dating him because he’s so sweet and romantic. But he’s perfect for Christina; I’d never take him away from her. As soon as she sees him, Christina jumps out of the car and runs into his arms. As he hands her the flowers, I get out of the car and walk over to them.

“And these are for you.” Nick says to me and pulls a smaller bouquet out. All of a sudden, tears start streaming down my cheeks. Seeing Nick’s startled look, Chrissy says “It’s pregnancy hormones. I’m going to get them too!” After she said this, he immediately looked reassured. I take the flowers and we walk in the building. Just as fast as they came, the tears disappear. I really hate all these hormones.

“Miss Rose? Miss Mayor? Doctor Bailey will see you now.” The receptionist says. We stand up and walk back to the room we were last time. Dr. Bailey had us both weighed, give a urine sample, and we got our blood pressure checked.

“You two are perfectly healthy. Now if I could have Christina lay down here, we’re going to do your first ultrasound. Then you, Brooklyn. You know the drill.” Christina lies down on the bed and Dr. Bailey says the same thing to her that she did to me. “Lift up your shirt to your bra- right there. This might be a little cold.” Christina shivers at the contact and looks back at Nick. “There it is!” the doctor says, pointing to the screen. Christina bursts into tears and Nick’s eyes tear up.

“It’s s-so b-b-beautiful!” She says between tears.

“Shhhhh… can you hear the heartbeat?” Dr. Bailey says and Christina stops crying. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Christina bursts into tears once again, and the doctor helps her off the table. Now it’s my turn. I slowly climb onto the bed and recline. When she puts the cold gel on my stomach this time, I don’t shiver. Then I see them on the small screen. They’re getting so big. I hear Chrissy gasp and I can tell that she’s mesmerized by the screen. I can feel my eyes watering up, but I hold them back. This isn’t sad, it’s beautiful. Even though this wasn’t what I wanted, or what I planed, it’s beautiful. And I’m thankful for everything that got me here. Even Mason.

“¿Tenemos la mantequilla de maní aquí?” I say to Rosalina as I walk back into Christina’s house. Rosalina is their housekeeper, she speaks English but she’s better at Spanish. Lately I’ve been craving peanut butter.
