As discussed in the previous chapter "Fairyfails", we at some point or another do the gender discrimination between toys and even colours. May be we are so used to such discrimination from our childhood that now we don't even realise that we are actually discriminating.
When it comes to gifts, why most of the times girls are gifted with dolls? Why not guns? Or cars? Or airplanes?
Or the other way round, why always boys are gifted with cars, helicopters, guns? Why not dolls?
Dolls are cute and sweet! Aren't the boys have the right to play with sweet and cute things?
Have you ever thought why pink colour is considered to be girlish?
One of my friend hates pink colour and her reason behind this hatred is : "Its so girlish!"
I would like to share an incident with all of you all. One of my mother's friend stays in USA from last few years. When she visited us last year, she shared an incident happened with her 4 years old daughter there. Once my auntie (that is my mother's friend ) saw a beautiful pair of blue sandals and she liked it. So she immediately bought it for her daughter. Her daughter went to one of her friend's birthday party there wearing those blue sandals. But once she reached the party all the kids started laughing at her. When auntie asked the kids what made them laugh on her daughter, the answer she got was shocking. They said,
"Auntie, she is wearing blue coloured sandals. And blue colour is of boys and not of girls! Whereas, pink colour is of girls!"
I mean seriously! What does those 4 years old kids even know about colours? They are being taught such things which are ultimately reflected from their actions.
And also, one thing is pretty clear from this incident that this "colour + gender discrimination" is not only in India but also in other few parts of this world.
Always remember, colours have their own moods but can never be distinguished as "girlish" or "boyish".
