xiv. someone's footsteps

Vanessa's POV

I FROZE in my position.

"Vannie, puwede bang umuwi na tayo? Naiinitan na 'ko, 'oh! Ang hot ko ba naman kase, 'eh."

I widened my eyes and placed my palm on his shoulder.

"Tsansing—"

"Did you hear that?"

I looked around. Is someone else here?

I'm certain I heard a noise! What the fuck was that?

"Ha, ang alin?" He whispered.

Damn it. I can feel it again.

Those stares.

Someone's looking at me again. Fuck it! Someone's here!

"Baka tiyan ko lang 'yon, Vannie. Hehehe."

I glared at Eric. He's no freaking help! Why did I even think of bringing him here? I fucking forgot he's a dumbass.

"Gutom na 'ko, Vannie! Baka kung ano-ano lang 'yang naririnig mo." He complained but he shut his mouth instantly after we heard a gun cocking.

I turned my back swiftly with my gun ready to shoot. Eric immediately hid behind me.

"P-putek! Vannie, may multo?!"

I groaned. Come on, Eric! Just this time, will you fucking cooperate with me? Tsk!

"Vannie!"

I grunted and glared at him.

"Shut the hell up, Eric. I'm trying to focus here! I think we're not alone . . ."

I examined the area. So far, there's no one else but us but I can feel someone looking at me from afar.

"Where the fuck are you . . ." I mumbled.

I kept changing the direction of my gun as Eric followed my back and stayed there. Obviously scared.

I definitely saw a movement from the corner of my eyes. That's why without thinking, I ran to follow him with blazing fire in my eyes — ready to assassinate him.

I ran like a cheetah — a cheetah who's catching its prey. A prey I won't fucking lose to. A prey I won't let witness the sunrise anymore the moment my palm grasped his damn neck.

I turned right and suddenly, he fucking disappeared!

"Fuck! Son of . . ." I cursed out loud.

Then it hit me.

I looked around and heck! Eric's not with me!

Bullets of sweats covered the side of my forehead as my heart raced due to anxiousness.

'Shit!'

I went where Eric could be — where I left him but even his damn shadow isn't in there!

I frustratingly clenched my fist.

Fuck! If something bad happened to Eric! I'm not gonna fucking forgive myself!

"V-Vannie!" I heard Eric's voice somewhere near me which made me attentive again.

"Eric!" I shouted back and walked. "Where are you?!"

I didn't hear a response from him which made me look back. I keep looking around and examining the area — just to find where he is!

"Eric!" I shouted.

My chest starts to become heavy. Damn! Of all people, why Eric?!

"Eric!"

I kept screaming and shouting out loud his name not until I heard him again.

"V-Vannie!" He suddenly appeared and I noticed his pale lips which made me feel relieved. He's here . . . he's not hurt . . .

I immediately walked towards him to check on him and scold him for scaring the shit out of me.

"Where the fuck have you be—"

'Fuck!'

Right in front of my eyes, I saw how Eric's eyes widened as his blood started to drip out from his shoulder.

Shit, he was shot!

I instantly covered him with my body. His knees fell on the floor which made my lips become pale and my body numb.

"E-Eric . . ." I caressed his cheeks. "D-don't sleep! D-don't you fucking sleep!" I warned him with my shivering hands on his face.

He groaned. He can't even look in my eyes due to pain. He let out small grunts but the rest were inaudible noises.

Again, I heard some footsteps around us.

I shook my head. No! I'm not gonna let you hurt him again!

"Show yourself!" I pointed my gun at somewhere. "Show your goddamn self if you have fucking balls!"

Eric's grunts filled my ears which made me hold tightly on my gun — ready to pull the trigger.

I waited for someone to appear but only someone's footsteps is all I can hear. I waited and waited . . . until the footsteps started to sound it's heading closer to us, I tilted my head and my eyes became even more deadly. Almost pulling the bullet . . .

. . .  but it turns out . . . it's Axel.

His bloodshot eyes locked on mine before it drifted to Eric who's on the floor — still groaning in pain.
