lil baby, big trouble

"I could slap you right now."

I said to Fergal as he helped me to the couch.

"I know. The ambulance should be here any minute."

Fergal said as he kissed the top of my head.

"I just need to push. Fuck the damn ambulance."

I said to Fergal with tears in my eyes.

"Just let her push. That baby is coming out one way or another. She could get infection if she doesn't push."

Anne-Marie said to Fergal. Fergal looked at me with sympathy all of his face.

"You ready to push?"

Fergal asked. I nodded as he grabbed my hand. He helped me remove my pants and underwear as Anne-Marie went to fetch some blankets.

"I'm scared."

I said to Fergal as he kissed my hand.

"Don't be scared. She'll be here in a couple minutes and so will the paramedics."

Fergal said as Anne-Marie came back into the room with everything the baby would need.

"You ready?"

Fergal asked me.

"I guess."

I said as I started pushing. After a couple minutes, I was already ready to give up.

"Fergal, I can't do this anymore."

I sobbed into his shirt.

"You got this, love. Two more big pushes and she'll be here. I promise."

Fergal said as he kissed my sweaty forehead. I nodded as I have a huge push.

"Her heads out! One more baby."

Fergal said, giving me the strength I desperately needed. I pushed one last time and heard cried fill the room. Anne-Marie held her new little niece up as I smiled.

"Wanna cut the cord, Fergal?"

She asked. Fergal nodded as I smiled at him. He never got to cut the umbilical cord with the other kids so I knew this was probably special to him. Fergal handed the baby to me as I smiled at her.

"You need a name little one! Yes you do!"

I said with a smile. That's when I felt myself get lightheaded. Then it was a struggle for me to keep my eyes open.

"Fergal."

I whispered.

"Pam, stay awake. Stay awake with me."

He said as Anne-Marie took the baby from my arms. Then my eyes closed one last time and everything went black.
