I rubbed my eyes as I heard Fergal walked into the bedroom.
"You okay?"
I asked him.
"Yeah. You?"
"Yeah."
I said with a sigh.
"Wanna get into some more comfy clothes?"
Fergal asked as he looked at my outfit.
"Yes please."
I said as I put my arms up for him to help me up. Fergal helped me up and into my wheelchair and start pulling my shirt up. That's when he noticed the bruise on my bump.
"Did I...did I do this to you?"
Fergal asked as I looked away. I hated seeing him so upset.
"I'm sorry."
Fergal said as he ran his hand over the bruise, causing me to whimper a bit in pain.
"Let's just get you changed."
Fergal said as he finished taking my shirt and pants off. That's when he noticed the bruises on my arms and legs.
"Pam...how the hell did you get these?"
Fergal asked as I put my head down. Fergal put his index finger under my chin and tilted my head up so he was looking at me.
"Pam, how did you get these?"
Fergal repeated as tears filled my eyes.
"I just wanna walk. I was just trying to walk and I kept falling, Fergie."
I said as tears escaped my eyes. Fergal took his thumb and wiped my tears.
"Don't cry. It's okay."
Fergal whispered.
"I want to walk Fergal. I wish I could go back to that day and listen to you and not jump off the bridge. I'm a useless waste of space."
I cried. Fergal pressed his forehead against mine as he placed a kiss on my lips.
"You are not. I love you so much Pam. Quit putting yourself down. You're gonna walk again. I promise. Now, quit trying to walk when I'm not helping you. I don't want you or the baby to get hurt. And you're going to the doctor to get that bruise checked out tomorrow."
Fergal said as I took a deep breath.
"Okay."
I whispered as I threw a shirt on and Fergal helped me put some shorts on.

"I love you."
Fergal whispered as he placed a kiss on my cheek while we waited for the doctor. They did some typical blood work on me and said they needed to do an ultrasound to check out the baby.
"I love you too."
I said as I kissed him. Then the doctor walked into the room.
"Okay, so let's do an ultrasound first and then we can go over your blood work."
The doctor said as I gave a slight smile. She put the gel on my tiny bump and moved the doppler around. I smiled as I looked up at the screen and saw the baby.
"Looks like the baby is doing great. Would you like to know the gender?"
The doctor asked.
"Yeah."
I said with a smile.
"Looks like it's a little boy."
The doctor said as she smiled at me. I frowned a bit as the doctor looked at my exposed arms and legs. I could tell she was looking at the bruises.
"Um, I'll be right back."
She said as she walked out of the room. I looked over at Fergal as I took a deep breath. A couple minutes later, she came in with another woman.
"Can we talk to Pamela alone really quickly? You can wait in the waiting room."
The doctor said to Fergal. He nodded as he kissed my temple and walked out of the room. Then the other girl spoke up.
"Pamela, my name is Cassandra. I'm a social worker. I wanna speak to you about these bruises you have."
She said as she looked at my body.
"What are you implying?"
I asked her.
"I'm not implying anything. I just want to know how you got them."
Cassandra said.
"I fell."
"How?"
"I tried to walk and I fell. Fergal didn't hurt me. He wouldn't lay a hand on me."
I protested.
"Well, we hear that all the time. Especially with the "I fell" excuse."
"It's not an excuse!"
I yelled.
"Okay, calm down. I think we should go ahead with our plan with him."
Cassandra said to the doctor.
"Don't do anything to him! He didn't do anything wrong!"
I said. These were the moments I wish I could walk.
"Please don't arrest him or anything."
I told the doctor as Cassandra walked out of the room.
"I'm sorry. The police have already been called. Now we really need to talk about your blood work."
The doctor said as tears fell down my face.
"I don't care about my blood work."
"Pamela, I know you're very upset but this has something to do with you baby."
"Then what?!"
I snapped at the doctor.
"It turns out that your baby could be positive for the Down syndrome gene."
The doctor said. My heart just stopped at that point.
"What?"
I said in astonishment.
"We want to get a 4D ultrasound done to see if you baby has Down syndrome."
The doctor said.
"You've gotta be kidding me."
I sobbed as I laid back on the exam bed. I texted Sasha for a ride as I continued crying. All of this was just way too much to handle.
