Arnav looked at the Doctor in front of him, and waited for him to start the session.
"Hello, Mr. Raizada" the Doctor greeted.
Arnav nodded his head in return.
"So did our last session give you new perspective?" Doctor asked.
Arnav nodded his head again. "It did. I can see why my sister did what she did. I would also do the same for my family."
The Doctor smiled. "And what do you think of your wife's pregnancy?"
Arnav didn't respond. He has come to accept her sister's decision. He didn't blame her anymore. She did what she thought was best to protect her child. But the fear that incident has caused him is difficult to shake off. The fear was still there, and he doesn't know what to do about that.
"Mr.Raizada?"
Arnav focused on the Doctor.
"I still fear something's going to happen to her. It's still very hard. She wants to enjoy her pregnancy so much, and it gets clouded by my fear. And I hate myself for that. I try very hard to let go of the fear, it just isn't ready to leave me."
The Doctor nodded. "I understand, Mr. Raizada. You have to give it some time. It's definitely going to fade away. Only memory related to pregnancy you have is losing your sister. And your mind subconsciously relates it to your wife's pregnancy. But the fear will go, I have seen it happening. And I am sure it's going to happen with you as well. All it will take is the dreadful memory to be replaced with beautiful ones. Just be little patient."
Arnav took in Doctor's every word. His words filling him with hope. Hope of enjoying life like any normal person. Hope of not marring Khushi's happiness with his fears. Doctor is asking him to be patient, and patient he will be. He will try to not give in his fear, and take care of his wife the best he can. He will try to be happy about this pregnancy, just like Khushi. Try - being the keyword. He is trying. He doesn't know how much he is accomplishing by trying, but at least he can try to not burden her with his fears.
"So, Mr.Raizada, I guess we are done for today." The doctor said.
Doctor's word broke his reverie and he stood up. Nodding at the doctor, he exited the office.
Arnav entered his house to see his wife lying on the couch, her legs resting on couch's arm. And her darling son bending over her, talking nineteen to dozen. A small smile touched his lips. His family borders somewhere between cute and weird. And he loves them to moon and back.
"What's happening here?" Arnav asked as he walked towards them.
As Abeer jumped down the couch to greet him, he sat on the couch and shifted Khushi's head on his lap.
"Any problem?" He looked down at her.
Khushi smiled and mouthed a "No."
"Daddy, Amma taught me a new thing today!" Abeer said, bursting with excitement.
"And what is that?" Arnav asked.
Abeer started singing a nursery rhyme.
Khushi smiled, proud of his son. "My Einstein" She pulled him to her and kissed his cheek.
Arnav lifted an eyebrow at his wife, and can't help the chuckle that left his mouth.
"That's great Abeer! You learned that in a day? I am very proud of you."
Abeer beamed.
"I had remembered your phone number too, Daddy. And everything else you had asked me to do! Today I even made a drawing. Wait I will show you." With that he ran upstairs to extract his drawing.
Abeer's words warmed Khushi's heart. Even when he was battling with his fears, he remembered to take care of her.
"You know what Arnav? Nothing's going to happen to me." Khushi said with conviction.
Startled, Arnav looked down at his wife.
"What?"
Khushi pulled herself in a sitting position and took Arnav's hand in hers.
"You have nothing to fear, Arnav. I am not going to go anywhere." Khushi knew it. Her Devi Maiya just cannot do that to this person. He just cannot do without her in his life. And Devi Maiya isn't so heartless to take away his only anchor to this world. She won't do it.
"And how are you so sure about that?" His chest felt too tight, but he had to ask.
Khushi smiled and dropped a kiss on his cheek. " I just know it. You, me, Abeer, and the new baby is going to live together for a long long long long time"
Despite of himself, Arnav laughed. Cupping her face between his palms, he tweaked his nose with hers.
"I hope so Khushi.... I hope so..."
"I am not leaving, Arnav... I just know..." with that she rested her lips on his, giving him a loving kiss.
And Arnav fell little more in love with her.
