Unexpected Surprise

I kept on smiling as I helped Mom set up plates on the table. He's coming over to lunch. No, not Sebastian, my cousin. I haven't seen him in such a long time. Well, technically, he isn't my cousin. Our moms grew up together way back then. Mom called them over for lunch as another celebration of me skipping a grade.

"All right, what are we forgetting?" Mom asked in a hurry.

I looked up. "Um, drinks?"

"Got it."

"Food?"

She rolled her eyes. "Of course. You and I both know how your cousin gets." I snort in amusement as I set the glass down. "Maze, did you -"

I nodded. "I took the chicken out before it got burned...again."

"One time." Mom came over and moved my hair away from my face. "Ok, hair is good. Room clean?"

"Yes."

"Homework done? Guest bedroom clean?"

"Yes and yes."

Mom sighed in relief. "Ok, I think we're good. Now you can spend all weekend with him."

I rolled my eyes. I haven't seen him in....two years. We call each other, but it's not the same. And it's the weekend. I have some movies we can watch and he'll bring some of his games for us to play. I went ahead and got us some chips and candy. This weekend is going to be awesome.

We heard the door bell ring. My mom jumped in excitement before we both ran towards the door. Mom opened the door and she smiled when Mrs. Lynn appeared on the other side. Even at my mom's age, she can act like a teenage girl who hasn't seen her friend in a long time. But I'm going to be a hypocrite when I see my cousin at the other side of the door.

I jumped in glee, pun not intended. "Ryder!"

"Maze!" He said happily as we hugged.

It's weird, first we were at my house then the scene changed. We were in some weird stage with some sparkly get ups. We gave each other confused looks before shrugging our shoulders and going along with it. This is our favorite song to do together, so why not?
