SAGE

This week, I'm going to break my usual pattern and write about two female characters in a row, because now that I've done pretty much all of the more major ones, I'm probably just gonna be pulling out random minor characters.

Nothing is really known about Sage's human life besides that her age had to somewhere between 900 and 1,000, since she was born in the late eleventh century. She was turned into a vampire by Finn Mikaelson, and was the first of his sire line (and probably the only vampire Finn ever turned himself, since no others were mentioned). She's probably the oldest non-Original vampire to appear on The Vampire Diaries.

In a way, Sage was responsible for the vampire Damon became. When they met in 1912, Sage taught Damon about having fun as a vampire, and that had an enormous influence on how Damon acted in the years to come.

Sage tended to come off as rather cold and aggressive, but despite that she was capable of loving people. She fell in love with Finn while she was still human, and he must have had feelings for her too, since he turned her into a vampire. Even after nine hundred years, she still loved him. Or I guess it could have been some kind of weird obsession. But I think it's more likely she was actually in love with him.

For those who might not have read the novels by L.J. Smith, there was also a Sage in the books, but it was a very different Sage from the TV show. The original Sage was a very old male vampire who was the son of the Devil and who had a stronger friendship with Damon than on the TV show. So, yeah, that was quite the change.
