You sighed as another day started. You laid in your bed staring at the ceiling, refusing to get up until your phone buzzed. Picking it up, you saw that your boyfriend, Mark, had texted you.

Mark: Good morning beautiful! I'll be over in a few to pick you up for our date. Love you

Shit! You had forgotten about your plans today. You quickly texted back a reply and hopped out of bed. Sliding into the bathroom, you quickly changed clothes. You reluctantly dragged a brush through your bed-head. As you checked yourself in the mirror, you felt that all too familiar sinking feeling grow inside you.

Plain.

You sighed and walked out of the bathroom, refusing to look at yourself again. Slipping your phone into your pocket, you grabbed your shoes and began to lace them up. The doorbell chimed and you hustled down the stairs. As you opened the door, you caught your reflection.

Ordinary.

"Hey, gorgeous!" Mark said as he stepped closer and pulled you in his embrace. You breathed in his scent and felt calm. You brought him inside and grabbed your purse before hopping into his car. You instantly pulled the sun visor down and checked yourself in the mirror as he slid in.

Nothing special.

"Babe, you don't need to check yourself. You're beautiful, darling. Don't ever doubt it." He reached his hand over and intertwined his fingers with yours. You gave him a forced smile.

"Thanks, Mark. I really needed that."

After finally arriving to your park date, you two hopped out of the car and admired the amazing day. You two held hands as you explored the park. After walking around for a good bit and chatting about the scenery, you two decided to sit down for a while in a little secluded spot under the shade of an oak tree. You laid down on the grass and Mark joined you.

"You should have totally brought Chica. She would've loved this. Plus, she makes everything better."

"I think you are only dating me for my dog," Mark chuckled.

"You might be on to something there," you giggled as you stared up at the clouds. After a few moments, you felt Mark's hand over yours. A smile crept onto your face.

"You know you're amazing, right, (Y/N)?"

You blushed as you looked over at Mark. His big puppy dog eyes stared into yours, making you smile and quickly look away.

Amazing.

You had never felt amazing in your life. "That's really sweet, Mark, but really I'm not."

"(Y/N), I can't believe you can't see how amazingly beautiful and awesome you are. It kinda aggravates me," he chuckled. "You can light up a room with just a smile. Your personality is so bright and awesome."

Bright and awesome.

You bit your lip as a warm sensation came over you. You felt...happy. Looking back into Mark's eyes, you couldn't help but smile.

"Mark, you're too sweet. Thank you for helping me feel better."

He smiled as he cupped your face in his hand. "I'm just trying to make you feel the same way you make me feel."

You soaked in his words as your smile widdened. Scooting closer to Mark, you wrapped your arms around his neck. His hands slid down to your waist and pulled you closer to him.

"You make me feel like the happiest person in the world. I feel like my best self when I'm with you," Mark said as he tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.

"You make me feel special and happy. You make me believe in myself," you replied as you leaned in and kissed him.

Happy.
