Chapter 12: The Pain of the Past

Calvin's POV

My eyes shot open as my body felt like it was on fire. I screamed and nothing, there was nothing and no one. I felt a cooling hand touch my shoulder and I turned quickly. I looked at the older man and women, they had a familiar feeling about them but I couldn't figure it out. They smiled at me, "We are your great, great grandparents. We are only the second in our line to ever be given the chance to expect the power." I looked confused, "What power?" They looked at each other, "You are in the magic pond it can give a special magic power. If you enter the pond and are full of hate it mostly acts just like a pond and nothing happens. If you enter the pond and have a heart of gold you get a chance at gaining a strong power an ancient power." I gasped, "Kates power is from the pond." They nodded, "In a way yes. Once in the pond your spirit goes up to the spirit world. Which is where you are at now. We your elders have to decide whether or not we believe you deserve the special powers." I looked at them, "What if you decide I don't deserve it?" They sighed, "Then you leave the spirit world but your real body dies away. You are stuck between the two worlds." I felt my mind racing as they each placed a hand on my shoulder, "We must look into your memories to decide if you are worthy it might hurt so stay still." I nodded as they placed their second hand onto my head. I saw quick glimpses of the past, of me helping and hurting people. I felt a heat rising inside me as my body began to almost boil. They released their hands as they looked at me smiling, "If you wish you may take the power. Know with this power comes responsibility. You must only use if for good never for bad." I nodded, "I would love the magic power, and promise to never use it in any bad way." They nodded and mumbled some words and smiled wide, "Calvin and Sirius welcome this power and enjoy its wonder." They both touched me and I felt my body fly backwards. My eyes opened again this time I was under water and swam towards the surface. I quickly gasped for air as Eragon helped me out of the pond, "Where is Kate?" He pointed to the water, "She wasn't come up yet." I whimpered and looked far under the water at her floating body. I began to cough up water as Eragon slapped my back. He handed me a cup of liquid and I drank it quickly, "What is this?" He smiled wide, "Do you really want to know?" I looked at the redish pink liquid, "Yes I do."  He sighed at looked at me, "It is Unicorn blood." I looked at it with my mouth wide open, "NO WAY!" I drank the rest as I looked at Eragon trying to hold back a smile, "What?" He busted out laughing and took the glass, "It's not Unicorn blood." I looked at the now empty glass, "What was it?" He laughed harder and couldn't even speak making me more worried, "It's deer blood." I laughed, "That's not bad at all, I was so scared it was your blood or something." He laughed harder at me, "Yup laugh it up half horse." He stopped suddenly and I felt every hair on my body stand up, "You feel that?" He nodded and stood quickly and whistled. I felt the ground shaking, "Eragon what is happening?" The shaking stopped as we both looked around waiting for something to happen. I heard two death howl, "Ben! Joseph!" I felt a hot sensation flowing over my body. I heard a scream as Kate almost flew out of the water. I looked at the her and the blue flame surrounding her.

Kate's POV

"My dear Kate what has happened?" I looked up at my brother, "They gave me to the most horrible alpha he hit me and hurt me he broke me down and killed the ones around me." I felt his arm wrap around me bring me comfort. "They should not have done that," he looked at me and I smiled, "Joseph looks just like you." He dropped his smile, "I am sorry for everything that has happened it is all my fault." I shock my head, "No it's that horrible alphas fault and I swear I will kill him for all he's done."  There was a bright light and that's when the smell hit me, "Mate!" I looked around and saw him, "why is my mate here what happened??" I felt my feet moving before I could do anything until two strong arms wrapped around me, "You can not help him he must figure it out on his own." I turned to look at my brother once more, "What happens to me now?" He grabbed my hand and started to pull me away, "you already had the power which means you were given judgement now it's time to see if anyone is willing to take that chance again." I walked into a room my brother disappeared, "Judgement." I looked around no there," Judgement will be passed." I felt a growl erupt out of me, "I saved my pack the people who mean the most. What judgement could there possibly be?" I felt my body lift up, "you should have stayed with the first mate." I whimpered, "I have my mate now my pack! I will protect them no matter what!" My body touched the ground again, "She passes I will help her." I looked up at my grandma smiling, "I will help you protect the pack." She grabbed my hand and placed her forehead on mine as my body began to burn and then cool. I looked around as I heard two howls I hoped to never hear again. My eyes opened as I was underwater. I pushed off and flew to the surface. I could feel the power radiating off of Calvin. I quickly shifted and raced for the front gate. I looked up at Alex his face saddened but firm. That's when the smell hit me hard. Gross moldy, bloody smell. I felt my body shift as my eyes hit his and I growled "Kent." He walked out from behind a tree, "little Katie." Calvin was by my side pushing hard up against my leg. Feeling my fear and anger I had for this one guy. Then my eyes hit Ben his body limp and dead. Then to Kent holding  Joseph by the neck ready to kill. "Kent let him go he has nothing to do with this," I felt my body move forward. "Hold up little Kate," he threw Joseph down and put a foot on him pinning him down. "Katie if you cone with us and be our little play toy we will let all the others go." I growled and Calvin shifted fast feeling all the power run over him, "She is mine and neither of you are going to ta..." I heard a gun shot as Calvin hit the floor. "CALVIN!!" I looked at the two darts sticking out of his neck. I growled as I looked back to Joseph and heard him in my head, "let me die I will be okay." I whimpered and felt tears as I shifted and raced for them. Alex quickly shifted and raced for me I jumped around him as Kent smirked. He did a low whistle and I stopped dead in my tracks I looked around at the 10 men holding guns pointing at me, "Two ways this is going to go little brat. One you come with us willingly. Or two you get knocked out and we kill your mate and this weak wolf pup." I whimpered and shifted back falling to my knees in defeat. That's when I felt a power take over as I looked up at Kent and Alex with a new sense of vision. I felt my blood boiling as I death stared at both of them, "I have had enough of you two." I almost saw a flash of dead come over both of them. I bowled out as I felt Calvin waking up. They looked back at him, "Impossible two darts should have had him out for hours." He shifted and shook off his new light white blond fur. He smirked a menacing wolf smile and was quickly next to me. The two of them shifted and raced for us. I pushed forward aiming straight for Kent. All the pain he caused me and hurt rushed through my body making me even more powerful. I reared up and quickly felt my teeth sink into his side. I threw him and turned look at him all weak and bloody. "You have hurt me for the last time Kent." He smirked as I felt a dart hit me and I stumbled. I quickly pulled it out of my side and felt my body shift back. Kent shifted and pulled out a shiny silver knife. He grabbed me by the hair and lifted me up. Alex and Calvin stopped fighting and looked over. He cut down my arm making my blood hit the ground. I looked at Calvin as his whole body and eyes changed focus from Alex to Kent. He started to run for us as Kent cut down my leg, "Slow down love pup." He quickly stopped as I looked at him and he shifted. "I am going to take her and you will not follow," he whimpered as I nodded. I smirked as I turned to look at Kent, "bye Kent." He looked confused as I felt the arrow skim past my face. I felt my body hit the ground as Calvin ran over to me,"What just happened?" I point to the trees way across from us. Calvin turned and was squinting when he saw Eragon wall out of the tree line holding a bow. "Sorry I wasn't faster Kate," I smiled and nodded. I looked around and saw Joseph lifeless. I ran over and lifted him onto my lap, "Joseph please don't be dead." I felt a cold yet familiar hand touch my neck as Joseph sat up, "Ben!" He cried, "I was weak." He shifted and ran off I stood to follow as Calvin held me back, "He has to figure it out on his own."  I nodded as the smell of a fire hit me nose, "THE PACK!"
