Chapter 10

Anne and Phillip are on the way home from the hospital with Juliet and Jacob. Meanwhile... at the street where the circus is in..

Protester 1: (sneering) Did you hear ringmaster Phillip had a baby with the help?

Protester 2: He was so smart and talented until the circus.

Protester 1; We got to do something.

Protester 2: But what?

Protester 3: How about try and beat them to death, or create another fire? Maybe that'll cause them to leave. I heard Head Freak Ringmaster Barnum is back taking over for Phillip for a few months while taking care of his twins and his wife.

Protester 1: Brilliant. How about another fire?

Protester 2: Great!

Anne and Phillip walk by the circus on the way home, as they have to go through that street to get home.

Phillip: What are you guys doing here? You need to leave.

Protester 1: This is our town, son. We think you should leave. Back to where you came from.

Phillip: Will we have to do this all over again? (Steps up and attempts to get them out.)

Protester 2: Then what?

The other protesters throw a candle across the floor, causing another fire. A show had just ended, and the acts are still inside. PT Barnum walks by and finds the fire, and helps everyone out.

Phillip: (shouting) ARE YOU SURE WE GOT EVERYONE?

PT: Anne isn't out yet! I can't find her! She helped me out!

Phillip: WHERE ARE OPHELIA AND JACOB?!?

PT: Charity got them in time. She was watching tonight's show along with Caroline and Helen.

Phillip: Whew. Thank you so much!

PT: IM GETTING ANNE!

WD: GO!!!!!!

Charity: NOOOOO LOVE NOOOO!

Caroline and Helen: (shouting and crying) NO DADDY NOT AGAAAAIIIIIINNNN! NO! STOP!

PT dives right in. Anne is unconscious in his arms.

Caroline: Daddy!

Charity and Helen look at the injured, and unconscious Anne. Caroline and Helen began to cry.

Phillip: Get a stretcher. We must get her to the hospital now. Charity, please find the first bed you can find or even a crib. Take them to your house. I'm staying back with Anne.

Charity nods. Phillip quickly kisses Jacob and Juliet's cheeks and whispers "Mommy and daddy will be back" and leaves.

Phillip:

1 week later...

Phillip looks at the still unconscious Anne. He's been crying for days. A nurse and a doctor walk in the hospital room.

Doctor: I'm sorry, Mr Carlyle. Things don't look good.

Phillip: (Looks up) What?

Nurse: If she wakes up from the coma, it would be a miracle. She inhaled too much smoke, and if she makes it, she will have a high chance of developing lung cancer. It's time for you, your and her family and friends to say goodbye.

Phillip: (Starts sobbing) Anne, no. Please stay with us. You need to be here we just had two babies. You need to see them grow up, WD will miss you till he goes mad, and the circus won't be whole without you. (Looks at the doctors and nurse) get me a phone, please.

The doctor and nurse nod.

5 minutes later... he makes a group call with WD, and the whole cast.

Phillip: Hello? (In between tears)

Everyone shouts "Hello! How's Anne?"

Phillip: I'm so sorry, guys. Anne might not survive this.

Everyone: What????

Phillip: I've called for everyone to say their goodbyes.

Lettie tells her that she'll always think of her, Tom said she'll miss her and no one will ever replace her, Prince Constantine told her to fight. Dog boy said he'll miss her laugh, smile, and sense of humor. Charity wishes the best for Phillip, and is positive she'll overcome the impossible.

Eventually...

PT: I hope you make it. You're the light that brings up the mood, and makes everyone proud. You can't leave us.

Phillip hangs up, his eyes red.

Phillip holds Anne's hand.

Phillip: Please Anne, stay with us.

2 hours later... Phillip looks at Anne, who seems to be at the brink of death. He holds her cold, injured, and fragile hand. He's scared to death.

Anne begins to move, but Phillip thinks he is halucinating. He shakes it off. Anne begins to open his eyes, her voice shaky and hoarse.

Anne: Where... are... Juliet... and... Jacob?

Phillip looks up and pushes her hair out of her face.

Phillip: (trying to stay calm) Anne. They're with Charity. I've been with you since you were unconscious. Earlier they said you wouldn't survive.

Anne: Wow.

Phillip: I'm getting a doctor.

Phillip calls a doctor.

Doctor: You're awake!

Anne: indeed!

Doctor: I'll keep you overnight for observation. If you do well, we might release you, with a week of bed rest.

Anne: Thank you so much.

Phillip smiles
