Jacqui and Emily fly a homemade kite. Fritz and Franz (who is recovering) are watching.
Jacqui: (Giving the kite to Emily) Now run! As fast as you can!
Emily: Like this? ( nods) Woohoo!
Jacqui: Faster! Faster!
Emily: Almost...yes!!
Fritz and Franz: (Clapping for Emily and Jacqui) Whoo!
Jacqui: I'll take it.
Emily: (Sitting to watch the kite) Whew! It worked!
Jacqui: (Watching the kite) What else would it do?
Emily: I just wasn't sure how well the banana leaves would fly.
Jacqui: (Walking the kite over to Franz) Do you want to hold it?
Franz: Oh, yes!
Fritz: Will you two be alright for a bit?
Jacqui: (Distracted) Uh huh.
Fritz: (Sitting next to Emily) Hey.
Emily: Hi.
Fritz: Do you...want to take a walk?
Emily: Are you sure Franz and Jacqui won't do anything dangerous?
Fritz: They'll be alright. (Helps her up and they walk away.) Note: Turk follows and watches.
Emily: You...just wanted to go on a walk?
Fritz: Well, I wanted to talk to you.
Emily: Oh.
Fritz: (After an awkward pause) Do you - miss - England?
Emily: Every day. I miss the English birds and flowers. I miss my brother. My mother. My father.
Fritz: Anyone else?
Emily: Well, my grandfather.
Fritz: And?
Emily: My friend Sarah.
Fritz: And?
Emily: (Getting frustrated) My pet rabbit, Penny.
Fritz: Anyone else?
Emily: I don't know!
Fritz: So you don't miss anyone else?
Emily: What do you mean, "but no one else?"
Fritz: Uh...well...a boy... or...
Emily: Fritz! I would have told you that if you'd just asked!
Fritz: I did...ask!
Emily: Well, then, no.
Fritz: (Relieved.) Oh. (Pause)
Emily: Why?
Fritz: Uh, nothing.
Emily: (sadly) Nothing?
Fritz: Well, uh...
Emily: (Turning back) Is that all?
Fritz: Well-
Emily: (Sighing) We'd better go back.
Fritz: Emily.
Emily: What? (Pause) Look, if that's all, I'll just go make sure Franz hasn't fallen off another cliff while you're here asking me pointless questions.
Fritz: I...needed to know if...there was someone else.
Emily: Why?
Fritz: (Quietly) I love you, Emily.
Emily: (Still not looking at him) What...did you say?
Fritz: I love you. (Pause)
Emily: (Turning) Fritz, I didn't think I'd ever hear you say those words.
Fritz: Then -you...you-
Emily: (Smiling) Oh, yes, yes!
