It was another day at Whammy's Orphanage for Gifted Children, and it was spring as well, meaning that the weather was getting warmer, a pleasent contrast to the usual grisly grey skies that were seen.

Within the orphanage were the kids, two returning from their three year job at Japan. The teens were now soon to be 18, however until then they had to remain at the orphanage, since despite their heightened maturity, neither of the teens were legal adults. Well, Near was already 18, but to everyone's surprise he didn't want to move out yet. Or until he was done with University this year according to the young man himself.

"Neaaaaaarrrr!!!"

Ah, I take that back, despite one of them having heightened maturity.

"I'm booorrrrreeeedddddd!!!"

The young woman groaned as she rolled around on her friend's bed, watching him work at his desk.

"Then why don't you go and find something to occupy yourself with," he prompted with a sigh, used to the antics of the other, and not taking a slight second to look back at Y/n. His friend had taken the liberty of rolling herself up into a burrito, surrounded by his duvet which had a pattern of transformers on it. She was the only person allowed in his room for that particular reason.

Y/n frowned, puckering her lips as she tried to untangle herself from the bedsheets.
"But I wanna hang with you,"
she complained, grunting slightly as she attempted to untangle her legs, falling off the bed in the process and landing on the ground with an thud.
"And why do you need to study I mean you're smart enough aren't you? We literally finished up the Kira case"
She quipped, rubbing her shoulder which landed against the floor roughly, before standing up once she realised she was free from the grasp of the duvet.

"Perhaps so,it took us three years though, even with L's work"
Near played with his hair, putting his pen down to turn around and look at her, expression unchanging as he watched how she collapsed backwards onto his bed.
"plus, despite there being no need for it, we have finish our thesis for university, they're due soon just before your birthday" he said quietly, mumbling the last bit to himself.

Y/n sat up and just stared at him with a pouty face.
"I don't want to study though, we're gonna be able to be the first underage graduate's anyways so we have no problem"
She argued, only to be met with Near's expressionless reaction before he turned around on his chair and went back to writing up his notes.

"Then find something to entertain yourself with, I'm busy"

That didn't sit well with the young woman, and she just stayed there, wrapped up trying to think of ways to get Near's attention, then soon enough, ideas started.
"Near"
"Near"
"Near"

She received no response from the albino, who seemed to be going temporarily deaf for the time being, as he blissfully ignored the girl behind him.

"Near"
"Nate"
"Cloud"
"Sheep"
"Naaaattteeee pay attention to me"

Near had to try and hold back the small smile of amusement that was begging to cross his face as he heard his friend whine from behind him, her hands on his shoulders as she shook him gently. At the rate she was going to make his notes unreadable, not that he needed them for his thesis anyways.

"Yes,Y/A?" he finally responded.
.
.
.
"Hi"

The faint amusement he felt quickly dropped as he realised she merely wanted his attention to annoy him, and turned around to put his hand over her face and push her back. Whilst they were younger he would sometimes use a single finger to push her back from the forehead, but as they both grew, and Near had one hell of a growth spurt. His entire hand could cover her face, proving to be an excellent weapon to push away annoying pests. The pest being Y/n most times, and very rarely, younger kids who would almost run into him as they chased each other around the orphanage.
