My eyes slowly began to focus in on my surroundings and I saw the road blurring past me. My hearing surfaced next and I heard the car radio softly playing.
"Elizabeth?" Alex's voice caught me.
"Hmm?" I mumble rubbing my head.
"How are you feeling? Are you okay? I'm driving as fast as I can to get you home and then to the ER or something." he frantically rambles out.
"Wait what...?" I ask not understanding all the stuff he rambled out
"I'm fine why would I go to the ER?" I ask
"Babe? Do you not remember?" Alex asks me quickly looking at me with a dreadful look
"Yeah we stopped and got coffee and then got back on the road? I'm tired I don't know probably just fell asleep right away?" I mumbled
"You blacked out."
"Oh..." I mumble.
"You don't seem surprised or worried?" Alex questions.
"Yeah..."
"Please tell me it hasn't happened before." Alex asks frantically.
I lean my head on the window and let out a deep breathe I didn't notice I was holding.
"Why didn't you tell me? Why haven't you gone to the doctors? What if something's wrong?" Alex rambles.
"Alex." I stop him. He looks to me panicked
"Please stop with the 20 questions, I'm fine"
We drove in silence the rest of the way home and I couldn't help but hate it. Sometimes no words spoken was a good thing, but I knew Alex was between worried and mad and I didn't know what to say. Which was a new thing because I almost always have something to say.
"Liz?" Alex whispers what feels like hours later.
"Yeah?" I whisper back and look to him.
He takes his eyes away from the road and looks to me, " are you okay?"
It was those three words that hit me like a pile of bricks. Because as simple as the words were, they held so much emotion mixed with worry and frustration...but most of all care.
I nodded, "I am."
And with that Alex looked back to the road and we drove with the burden of what had happened lifted off our shoulders.
Before I knew it we were pulling into my street and I couldn't help but nervously tap my fingers on the car window.
I felt a hand grab mine and without words, Alex was there for me.
I sighed when he pulled up to my drive way.
"Thank you." I whisper.
"Be safe." he replies looking sad.
I nod and turn to get out of the car, but I fell my body being pulled back and before I knew it lips collided with mine.
Alex pulled away and rested his forehead on mine, "please stay safe."
"I'll try."
And with that I was off to somehow sneak back into the house.
