'It smells weird.' (Y/n) thought as they glanced down at the metal jellyfish ride they were in. The metal ride stopped rocking and they stepped off, they questioned why their parents wanted to come here, towns away from their home. (Y/n) looked up from the arcade ride only to find people walking on the boardwalk, other kids with their parents- however their parents were nowhere to be found. "Mom?" They called out to them, only some women turned but kept walking when they saw it wasn't their kid calling them. "Dad?" Nothing.

'Maybe they went to the beach?' (Y/n) thought, walking to the sandy shore and hearing the crashing waves hit the sand- it was meant to be peaceful but at the moment it was deafening to them. It filled them with panic and overwhelmed their senses. The sun was high in the sky but began to set and the townspeople and visitors began to return to their homes, however (Y/n) stayed at the beach- they couldn't move. They were scared. Their (e/c) eyes burned and began to fill with tears, the realization of them being alone set in. Not even the warm sand could bring them comfort.

(E/c) eyes shot open when they heard loud laughter coming from the other end of the beach, from the distance they saw a tall woman and short man standing by a van. The woman had big pink curls and a white dress, the man had long brown hair but it was thinning on the top- he wore jean shorts and a black shirt with a star on the middle of his chest. "Um… excuse me!" (Y/n) shouted, but their early cry made their voice a bit horse and the couple couldn't hear them- so they made their way towards the tall woman and short man. The closer the young child got to the van and the couple they noticed the woman was filming with a video recorder in her hands. The woman turns the camera towards her and begins to speak to it, a video for the future as she begins to say how much they'll be loved and how wonderful their family would be and to take care of them. When the woman shut off her camera she looks up and sees standing behind the short man with her was a child, eyes puffed and red.

"Greg." The woman called, the man shot up from his nap when his wife called him.

"Huh?! What's wrong Rose?" Greg asked, she only kept staring at the crying child behind him- he only noticed when he turned around and saw the child himself. "Oh geez! Are you alright?" Greg asked as he kneeled down on one knee to be somewhat eye level with (Y/n).

"...I… I don't know." (Y/n) shoulders slumped. They really didn't know what was happening, why their parents left without them, why they even came here to beach city- it was all unanswered questions that confused the young child.

"Um, okay. Where are your parents?" Greg asked. That led to a line of questioning from him and the woman named Rose. What's your name? Where do they live? Did they know any of parent's phone numbers? Did they know their parent's names? (Y/n) shook their head 'no' when asked the questions. Greg nodded and reassured them that it was okay and everything would work out.

That night Greg and Rose took (Y/n) to the temple- where the others were waiting for the return of their leader. Pearl beamed with joy when she saw Rose returning but frowned in confusion when she saw another human with her. Rose walked over to Amethyst and whispered into her ear. The short purple gem nods and walks to the magic gem door within the temple. It opens and she disappears within it, only to return with a blanket and pillows- she drops them near the worp pad embedded in the ground. There Greg gently led the young child to their makeshift bed for the night. After everything that had happened to the young (Y/n) they quickly fell asleep, but they couldn't help but listen to the conversion that would follow.

"Please tell me you are not taking in another human?" Pearl asked as she hovered over the new human within their temple.

"No."

"Yes." Greg and Rose said at the same time, Greg tensed up when his wife said yes.

"Rose. No, I'm taking them to the police station tomorrow morning." Greg said as Rose pouted.

"Oh please?!" Rose begged, placing her hands over her growing stomach. "I think it would be nice to raise a baby… since I won't be around for Steven." Rose looked down at her stomach- a sad smile growing on her lips.

"Rose…" Greg frowned, he looked over at Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet. All three of them looked at the ground saddened by her request, but it was nothing they could control. "Tomorrow morning, I'll head down the police station and see what they can do… if they can't do anything-"

"We'll take them in!?" Rose smiled as she clasped her hands together. Greg sighed but smiled, not being able to say no to her.

"What?! No! We are not taking in another human." Pearl sighed.

"I vote yes." Garnet spoke as she stood over (Y/n), not moving her eyes off the tiny human. "They could help us understand human babies when the time is right." She reasoned. "I also see them being a big part of our family."

"Really?" Pearl and Amethyst questioned. Garnet nods as Rose gasps in joy and looks over to Greg. He sighed and could feel his already thinning hair falling out more. Honestly, the man was scared to become a signal father, but a signal father of two that was just adding stress to an already stressful situation.

Like Greg had told them, he took the child to the police station- there he had learned that (Y/n)'s parents had abandoned them and had given up all rights they had as their parents. The police officer had told Greg that they'll put (Y/n) (L/n), at least he found out their name, into the system and get the CPS here right away. Greg nodded and looked over to (Y/n), but he froze when he saw them drawing him and Rose on paper and crayons the other officer offered them. He imaged his life with two rugrats insteaded of one, both waaking him up by screaming in the morning. Celebrating brithdays with two cakes instead of one. The gems smiling with an older (Y/n) with a pre-teen Steven. Greg couldn't help but smile when he pictured walking (Y/n) down the aisle when their older. Greg shook his head and looked between the officer and (Y/n). "Um, how much for an adoption?"

"We're back." Greg called out, as he held on to (Y/n)'s hand. The gems gathered around the worp pad to discuse a future mission as Rose sat on the ground gently storking her stomach. "Greg! Oh!" Rose gasped as she saw (Y/n) holding onto his hand. "Rose, Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst." Greg smiled as he gestured to (Y/n).

"Say hello to (Y/n) Rose Universe."

Starting from then on (Y/n) began their life with the gems, they began on working on a small house for themsleves within the tempal. Rose smiled as she watched Pearl teach (Y/n) basic english and math. Greg was worried about putting them into a school, but Pearl was quick to take the teacher roll for the new family member and taking them under her wings.

As months passed and as Rose gave up her form for Steven things went easier then expected. With (Y/n) there to explain to the gems what Steven is and how Rose was gone now, the transition of welcoming Steven went without too many hiccups. They did kidnap him and (Y/n) from their father- which sent him into a panic mess, but they returned them to him. The older (Y/n) and Steven got the more pressure (Y/n) realized they had as a duo. The pressure of keeping their mother's memory alive and the pressure of knowing everything all knowing about gem kind was a bit too much for (Y/n). Steven would just tone everything out but (Y/n) would take everything in, the praises Pearl ranted about their mother, the battle stories Grant told for bedtime stories, and Amethyst… well she was more like Steven, in the sense of just wanting to have fun and eat everything in their path.

(Y/n) didn't know Rose for long and the stories about her were just of the greatness she did, but that was like knowing someone from a book. It wasn't really knowing them just hearing about them and (Y/n) wanted to know the real Rose Quartz, not the amazing leader she was painted to be.
