Keeping it Together

“We need to track down Peridot. We found her pod. We know she's out there somewhere. She came to Earth with a job to do and odds are, she's still gonna try to do it. That's why I've gathered you here.” Garnet spoke in a serious tone as we all sat in the living room with a pile of laundry next to us, all of us folding clothes.

“I thought it was so you can help me fold all this laundry.” Steven said, again pointing at the pile of clothes.

“That too, the chore wheel idea you had fell apart.” Garnet said, on cue all our eyes look over to the fridge. There hanging right in the middle of the fridge was a wheel with all our names, including Black; since he has been staying here for a few weeks now, however every name was crossed out and replaced with Pearls’ name.

“Wasn’t me.” Amethyst said, we all look over at Pearl.

“I just really enjoy doing all of those things.” Pearl said, blushing a bit at being caught.

“It’s better if we do them together.” Garnet said.

“Humans should just stop wearing clothes, be a lot funnier.” Amethyst sighed as she dropped a folded shirt on the growing pile.

Black nudged me, I looked over and saw him with a smirk and him wiggling his brow. My cheeks grew red and my ears grew hot. Black teasing at what Amethyst said.

“Amethyst. No.” I said, blushing and ignoring Black. Steven throws a shirt at the tall male gem. Causing him to break out into a laugh.

“Hey! I'm a civil-i-fied part human, thank you very much. Clothing is a must.” Steven looks at the laundry pile. “Hmm... This is a lot. I bet this folding would go faster if Ruby and Sapphire were here!” He beams at Garnet but she shakes her head, denying his hint of unfusing.

“Garnets’ a fusion.” Steven told Black, who nodded.

“Yes, I knew that when I first saw her.” Black says as he adds another piece of clothing to the growing pile in front of him. He looks at the pile for a second longer than normal and sighs. “I now realize I hate this.” He said, leaning back as his arms held him up.

“Garnet, you don’t think Peridot would come looking for us, do you?” I asked.

“We weren’t her priority. She was sent here to do something in the kindergarten.” She said, patting me on the head to try and calm my nerves.

“Do you think she’s still going to try to reactivate it?” Pearl asked.

“Mmm… if she gets it back up and running, the injectors will be turned back on.” Garnet informed us.

“What injectors?” Steven asked.

“You've already seen them. Well, you've seen them disabled.” Pearl projects a hologram from her gem. “If Peridot reactivates them, they'll pick up right where they left off, planting Gems in the crust of the Earth, where they'll incubate and suck the life right out of the ground. We can't let Peridot restart Gem production here, if we do, the entire planet will become…” Pearl trailed off, not wanting to say what would happen.

“... Janked.” Garnet and Black said, finishing Pearl’s sentence.

“Garnet! Black! Those mouths!” Amethyst laughed at the unseen word. Garnet held up her fist at the male mineral for a fist bump- which he met.

“We’ll stop her, come on let’s go.” Garnet said, standing up from her stop on the floor and walking to the warp pad. We all follow, Black and Amethyst glad to be away from the never ending laundry.
