The last time I saw Melanie it was in March before I accidentally made the Cullens think I committed suicide. It was June now, and no contact from her as expected due to her old-fashion sense. Moreover, June is the month Jasper returned to Forks after his attempt to search for his mate. Edward shortly got in contact with him and told him the recent incident concerning the newborns in Seattle. He got Jasper to return to help us due to the fact he knew about newborns better than anyone, which was peculiar. I don't know anything about Jasper, what's his story?

"Jasper hasn't really mentioned much about his story," Edward told me one day when I was curious about his older adopted brother. "The past still affects him, and struggles to accept his new lifestyle."

"And his mate?" I had asked him.

"We don't know much, and Jasper hides his thoughts well. All we know is that she is good friends with the Denali coven." Jasper's situation couldn't help but remind me of the situation with Melanie. I hope they get their happiness soon...

I watched as said man paced in the small clearing we were at, waiting for Jacob and Sam's pack to arrive for the training. It was the first time I saw him look nervous; usually, he either looked like he's in pain due to the blood around him to tempt him or he's calm and has a blank look on his face. There was that time when he was somewhat carefree when they played baseball before Victoria, Laurent, and James gatecrashed the game. Seeing him nervous now made him look...human, in a way.

"When are the wolves coming?" Jasper asked his best friend who watched him pace in front of her.

"They're coming in five minutes, calm down Jazz!" she said lightly. "They're not going to kill us or anything!"

"Alice, this is the first time I am teaming up with enemies, and you want me to calm down?" Jasper suddenly snapped. I stifled a gasp at the interaction. Never have I ever seen Jasper act that way around his best friend; it looked to be something Alice wasn't used to either as she stared at him hurt.

"Jasper!" Esme chastised gently. Jasper shook his head sadly, glancing to Alice guiltily.

"I'm sorry," he said to her quietly, "it's just this situation is bringing back memories." Alice gave him a sad smile, hugging his stiff form momentarily.

"It's okay, I know you miss her a lot."

"Miss who?" I asked Edward quietly. "His mate?" Edward gave a small nod of confirmation. In an attempt to diffuse the tension, Emmett clapped his hands once loudly, bounding to Jasper with a large grin on his face.

"How about a fun little spar?" he asked Jasper. Soon, Emmett was defeated by Jasper for what seemed the millionth time in the past five minutes. Before anything else could happen, Jacob and Sam's pack arrived at the clearing.

I watched the whole training session intently, listening to what Jasper told everyone; the strengths and weaknesses of newborns, what to look out for, and how to defeat them. It amazed me with the amount of knowledge he had on the newborns, almost as much as Melanie during the rare times she was willing to explain about her experience in vampire wars.

Jasper had his family spar one another until it came to him and Alice. My worries grew when I noticed Alice bounce to Jasper with a beaming smile. "I know you worry for her," Jasper suddenly said to me, sensing my emotions, "so I'm going to show you why you shouldn't." Despite the fact that this wasn't the first time he had spoken to me, I couldn't help but be surprised whenever he did speak to me. He was just so reclusive and mysterious...

When Jasper crouched before Alice who simply stood still, my grasp on Edward's hand tightened for one of my best friends. Before I knew it Jasper was on the other side of Alice, much to my confusion. It happened again, Jasper going on the opposite side from where he crouched. I frowned puzzled. Edward, however, was leaning forward in his spot beside me, looking to the scene with intrigue. The others held a similar look to Edward.

I looked back to the fight but instead of watching Jasper, I watched Alice. She had her eyes closed peacefully, a small smile on her face. When Jasper moved to attack her, she simply took a small step away from him. Eventually, it looked like she was merely dancing around Jasper who tried to grab her to no avail. It was like a beautiful dance performance the way the two of them moved around.

Alice finally made her move, maneuvering around until she was on Jasper's back, her mouth at his neck ready to bite in. Jasper froze, raising his hands in defeat. "Gotcha!" Alice's voice rang out in the clearing. Jasper simply chuckled in reply, the wolves all growling their approvals from the spar.

"You truly are one terrifying monster," Jasper replied jokingly, however his eyes told a different story. It held so much sadness and longing...

When the wolves left and the Cullens were still having last minute training, Jasper went to walk past me sitting on the jeep to leave us when I called out to him. "Jasper, are you sure there's nothing I can do to help?"

"Your presence alone," Jasper answered, stopping in front of me with his arms crossed in front of his chest stiffly, "your scent will distract the newborns. Their hunting instinct will take over, drive them crazy."

"Good, I'm glad," I nodded thoughtfully. I looked to him curiously, mustering up the courage to ask him about his life. "Hey, how do you know so much about this?" At this Jasper tensed, looking away thoughtfully. He turned back to me moments later warily.

"I didn't have quite the same upbringing as my adopted siblings," Jasper started, pulling his arms away from his chest to reveal them to me with his sleeves rolled up. And that's when I saw it; multiple scars that were identical to the one on my arm from James, identical to the scars that were on Melanie's arms as well.

Jasper revealed to me the moment he got turned by a woman called Maria, getting pulled into her army and wars and having to kill newborns that were too old for battle. He further revealed to me the alter ego of his called Major, that was created from his pain and depression. Not only did he tell me his time before the Cullens, but he also revealed to me and the Cullens, about his mate.

He told me when he met her in their human years, falling in love with her and having thought she was dead while he was in war only to see her when he was turned into a vampire. He spoke of the start of their love, only for it to get taken away from them when Maria wanted to kill her. Since then he hasn't seen her.

"Wow..." I said after hearing his story. "That's...wow."

"It's a lot, I know," Jasper mused, glancing to his family to see them surprised as well. "It's the first time for everyone to hear my full story except Alice."

"Yes, and since I know your whole story," Alice said, emphasising on the whole as she spoke up, "you're not telling them everything."

"Everything?" I said confused. Jasper released an exasperated sigh in response.

"My mate was different," Jasper revealed, "very different as in she was a different rare kind of vampire." I straightened up at that fact. It couldn't be...

"How so?" Carlisle asked curiously. I waited with bated breath for his response.

"She was a different kind of vampire..." Jasper started.

"So you're a vampire that still has human blood in your system which makes you able to still connect with some human qualities such as getting pregnant..."

"Hey, Jasper?" I blurted out, interrupting his explanation. "What's your real surname since you're not related to Rosalie?"

Frowning in confusion, Jasper answered with Whitlock. "-Jasper Whitlock, the most Texan gentleman out there in the world." I felt like jumping off a cliff again at the revelation. "Oh my God..." I muttered to myself, facepalming.

"What is it?" Edward asked me, flitting to my side.

"Does your mate's name happen to be Melanie?" I asked Jasper, ignoring Edward momentarily.

"Yes!" Jasper's eyes brightened, suddenly looking alive and hopeful before me. "How do you..."

"This whole time..." I looked to them all in disbelief. "This whole time I was friends with your mate!"
