Chapter 31

The plaza had been decorated with clear, luminous string lights after all. They were hung all around the shops of the small plaza and even on the stage set up for the founding family of BellTown. The Fabray's. As in Sarah Fabray, yes.

Bethany's ex best friend and newly found archenemy, Sarah, was part of the founding family that raised BellTown. She was basically royalty around here.

Bethany glanced around the plaza and noticed that the shops were still open. She dragged Zach with her into the Mexican restaurant and ran up to the cashier.

"Hi, Juanpa." Bethany grinned.

"Oh, you're on a first name basis." Zach noticed.

"Yeah, I come here a lot. And his real name is Juan Pablo but Juanpa is for short." Bethany shrugged, then turned her attention back to Juanpa. "Can I get two corn on the cob, please?" She knew they were going to serve food at the ball in a matter of minutes but she wasn't very fond of fancy foods. She liked the simple but delicious.

"Ahorita mismo, Bethany." Juan Pablo replied.

Bethany loved the Spanish language. She almost failed the class like twice, but that didn't keep her from believing it was a lovely language. And she understood a lot of it, couldn't speak it very well but good enough to be slightly understandable when it came to the basics. "Gracias!" She said to Juanpa's back. He looked over his shoulder and smiled at her.

Zach chuckled. "You couldn't wait for the food to be served out there?"

"No, shut up. Trust me, you're going to love the way they prepare the corn here." She gushed. The food here had become her favorite. Goodness, Mexican's eat lavishly.

"Okay," Zach replied. During their wait, he said, "King Harry VIII slept with a gigantic axe besides him."

"Why?" Bethany asked at the annunciation of the random fact.

Zach shrugged, giving a short laugh.

Moments later, Joey and Adelaide stepped into the small restaurant too.

When Joey saw Pancho bring Zach and Bethany their corns on the cob with mayo, shredded cotija cheese, and powdered chili, his mouth watered. "Ooh, I want some." He said.

"I'm not buying it for you, Joe." Bethany warned before he even got the chance to ask. Joe frowned and pulled out his own wallet. Bethany went on to explain all the condiments on the corn to Zach. "Okay, bite into it." She said, waiting for his tastebuds to react.

Everyone watched him take his first mouthful, including Juanpa. Zach's mouth exploded with flavor and he moaned in delight. "Oh my, God. This is so good."

"Right!" Joe and Bethany said at the same time.

"Le gustó?" Juanpa asked if Zach had liked it.

"Yup," Bethany high-fived Juanpa and he smiled. "Okay, Pancho. We have to go, but I'll probably come here for lunch tomorrow though. Bye," she waved at him.

"Hasta mañana." He replied.

When Michelle noticed that her children were eating before any of the other guests, she laughed and told her husband and parents. When they noticed it wasn't even food from the ball, they laughed even louder. When Grandpa Greg caught Joey's eyes, he grabbed a napkin and motioned towards his lips.
