Bell forced her eyes open. The expansion of the sky stared down at her, a million starry eyes. Her hair and clothes was wet and sandy... from what? What had happened?

And then it came back to her, the oasis, the battle with Moltres, and...

Shell.

Was she really?...

Bell pushed herself up, and saw her friends lying on the banks of the oasis as well. Ash was nowhere to be seen... along with Pichu apparently. Everyone had already awoken, except for the girl in blue.

Was that her? Or perhaps another? She couldn't be dead, anyways. She would come back, like she always did.

Bell stood, and walked slowly over to her friends. The five crowded around the cadaver. The eyes were blank and pale, and the mouth curved in a final smile.

Raichu knelt down, and closed her eyes.

The parents eventually found them, arriving in the SS Da Huang Ya II. But how could anyone explain the death? What had happened below the oasis?

They could only vocalize a few phrases of what had happened, mere shards of the story. They could only give the body to Blanche, and hope she understood.

Blanche had stared at her daughter quietly, as if accepting the terrible truth. It was hard to look at, even though everyone wanted to. The absolute emptiness, the negative space of something that once was. When the girl looked like she was sleeping when she was not.

And then when Blanche had cried, everyone else cried with her.

---

They buried Shelly in Antarctica, hiding her body in snow and ice. A funeral was held for her before they did so, and many trainers attended, despite the cold.

After returning to the mainland, strangely enough, Raichu disappeared. Perhaps through survivor's guilt? Or maybe simply sadness. Ever since Shelly's death and his sister's capture, however, he hadn't spoken a single word to anyone else. Was he just too traumatized? No one knew for sure.

Life goes on in war. Even when humanity is pushed to the edge of the cliff, a faint wisp of hope is enough to spark a possibility of revival. Even when friends are pushed apart, and love is broken, life goes on.

That is simply the nature of humans, whether through strength, knowledge, or instinct.

THE END!!!

Or is it? (Dun, dun, DUN!!!)
