One evening another few months down the line, I was sitting with Ryan on the sofa in his apartment and we were kissing each other. My phone began to vibrate against the lining of my pocket. I answered the call to my landlady, Sharon.
"Hey Sharon," I greeted.
I got off the sofa and walked away from Ryan as I started to converse with her over the phone.
"Is everything okay?" I asked.
After she had responded, I began to protest.
"But Sharon," I objected. "What am I supposed to do?"
I glanced to Ryan, who eyed me with concern.
"Okay," I uttered. "Do you know of any other free apartments in town?"
"I'm sorry Evelyn, but I don't," she said. "I'm very sorry about this, but my nephew is in desperate need of the apartment."
"Don't apologise, it's okay," I replied, trying to hide my disappointment. "I'll be out within the next two weeks."
I looked to Ryan, who stood up and approached me as I hung up the phone to Sharon.
"Evelyn, I'm so sorry," he said.
He held his arms around me. I clung to the warmth which was radiating from every fiber of Ryan's being for a moment.
"I'd better start looking for another apartment and packing my things," I stated.
I then left Ryan's apartment to return to my own, well, the one I was soon to be evicted from.
