Soooo this plays off of one of my headcannons, my headcannon is that Kokichi is an orphan and grew up in the same orphanage as Maki! http://aminoapps.com/p/gi3g7o Heres a link to all my headcannons!

A crash of thunder echoed outside of a small but well-kept orphanage, the storm outside was just starting to pick up and the loud claps of thunder had frightened a few of the residents up, one being a small girl with long chocolate brown hair.

Maki Harukawa has lived at the orphanage for as long as she could remember, it wasn't bad there though, she got along well with the other children and help care for them the best she could, being only six at the time. Maki jolted in bed at another clap of thunder but swore she could hear something else underneath the raging storm, it sounded like...crying.

The first thing that came to mind was that one of the smaller kids was kept up in fear from the storm but when Maki scanned the room she saw all the children were still fast asleep as if there was no storm. 'Where's the crying coming from?' Maki thought to herself while she stepped out of bed. She then began to wander around the orphanage, looking for the source of the crying.

It didn't take long for Maki to come to the orphanage's front doors were the crying was the loudest. Without hesitation, Maki opened the door and looked around outside the door, there were no adults but when she looked down she saw a small eleven-month-old baby wrapped in a soft but oversized checkered blanket. Thinking quickly, Maki carefully lifted the small bundle up and saw that the baby had curly black hair and two different colored eyes looked up at her, the child's right eye was a deep shade of purple but the other was a bright golden.

A soft gasp escaped Maki and once she shut the front door, gently bounced the child in her arms, she then saw a small tag hanging from the blanket by a small pin, using a free hand Maki grabbed the pin and saw only two words written on the damp paper.

"Kokichi Ouma?" Maki spoke softly and heard how the small child cooed softly while reaching up towards her. Maki couldn't help but smile softly as she shifted to hold Kokichi close to her chest. When Maki saw the clock that hung across the room and how late it was she carried Kokichi up to her room and once inside, she carefully placed Kokichi on her bed, only laying down when she was sure he was comfortable.

The storm outside had settled to a soothing downpour, the droplets hitting the roof in such a way that it was almost like a lullaby with no lyrics. Maki saw how the small child was now fast asleep and couldn't help but smile softly.

It didn't take long for Maki to fall back asleep but before she let sleep overtake her, she lightly held onto the small infant's hand and whispered out a soft.

"Goodnight little brother, "
