Fixing Us

My alarm woke us up again. I moved to turn it off.

"No. Who ever calling can leave a message. Come back to bed." Hunter said still half asleep.

"Hunter we have to go to school." I said, kissing his cheek. Hunter groaned, "I don't wanna." I pulled away from him. "Get your handsome butt up."

I pulled on my skinny jeans and found a shirt on the floor.

"That's my shirt isn't it?" I looked at the shirt in my hand.

"I don't know, maybe." I said taking off my shirt.

Hunter's POV

She was taking her shirt off. Her back was facing me, so she couldn't see me checking out her muscular back. She must have been an athlete of some sort, or she just worked out a lot. Caroline turned around with the shirt half way down the top of her. Her tan flat stomach now in view. "Hunter. Earth to Hunter." My eyes met her blue ones. "What?"

"Why are you staring at me?"

I laughed nervously, "am I not allowed to stare at my girlfriend?"

Caroline blushed and gestured at her body, "not much to look at." I stood up, placed my hands on her bare stomach, then slid my hands around her.

Caroline's POV

Hunter's warm hands touched my stomach and I shivered. I wanted to kiss him but we had to get to school. I pulled his hands away from me.

"We have to get to school." I said pulling the shirt down to cover my stomach.

We waked to school. Walking in the front door I saw Chris and some of hid friends. I instinctively slid my arm around Hunter's, pulling him closer to me. I hadn't looked in the mirror this morning so I didn't know how bruised I was. Chris walked towards us and Hunter stepped in front of me. "What happened to your face?" Chris asked me, smirking.

Hunter answered for me, "what happened to yours, jackhole?" Chris looked at him and rolled his eyes, walking away.

We walked to class together, hand in hand. Everyone kept looking at us like we were freaks. I really hated being the center of attention. Half way through class my phone buzzed and there was a text from my boss. 'Caroline I'm sorry but you haven't been at work so I'm going to have to fire you.'

"Crap." I muttered. Hunter looked over at me with a questioning look. I showed him the text.

"Don't worry about it." He whispered back.

The bell rang, and we went to lunch. "Don't worry about your job." Hunter said breaking the silence.

"How am I supposed to pay for my apartment? Or my food? Or anything for that matter?" I said frantically.

"Caroline calm down. I can pay for it all."

"I couldn't ask you to do that."

"You're not. I'm telling you I will pay for it all."

"No." I said in a very serious tone.

"Why won't you take my help?"

"Because I can't get dependent on someone who might not be there forever." I said putting my head in my hands.

"Caroline, look at me." I looked up. Hunter put a hand on my cheek. "I will be here for you, forever. I promise."

"How can you promise something like that?"

"Because I love you. And loving someone is the ultimate promise a person can make."
