After school was let out Maya headed straight to her car. She was excited and anxious about Scott coming over. After all, this was the first time she had someone of the opposite gender in her room, besides her dad.

However, Maya was excited for the change. She started the car and headed down the road.

Once she got home, her car was the only one in the driveway which means her mom wasn't home yet. She hurried up the stairs to her room, trying not to fall. Maya tried to straighten up her already spotless room. She takes out her copy of To Kill A Mockingbird and sits with it on the bed and waits patiently for Scott.

About 10 minutes later she hears the doorbell. She sits still for a moment on her comfy bed and collect her thoughts. I can't believe he actually came. She shakes her head and once again, runs down the stairs.

She opens the door to reveal the guy that has started to corrupt her thoughts.

"Hey," Scott says with a gentle smile. "Sorry I'm late I had to ride the bus home," the hand on his backpack gesturing behind him.

He was late? Maya thought. Apparently this guy paid attention to the time, however time was the last thing on Maya's mind.

"Um, it's fine. Come in," Maya said expanding the door wider, stuttering a bit, still slightly dazed that he came.

"Thanks," He says and walks past her in her house.

Scott looks around the similar looking structure of Maya's house and his house. The only difference was the decor, really. He likes the different colors, pictures, and furniture.

"Nice house," Scott compliments. He turns to Johnson who was already looking at him, examine her childhood home.

Maya just smiles and nods. "Did-did you want anything to drink?" Maya didn't usually stutter but when she did, it meant she was extremely nervous. And she suddenly became very self-conscious because someone new was in her home, alone, just the two of them.

And it didn't help that his warm brown eyes were already steadied on her, when just a second before they were on her home. She wanted him look around and not at her.

"Oh no thanks, I'm good," Miller says with a shy smile. Maya wasn't the only one nervous in the house.

"Okay well, I guess we'll head upstairs."

"Sure," Scott gestures a hand in front of him for her to walk in front of him, to lead the way.

She walks in front of him, gripping her sweatshirt sleeves, as she walks up the stairs. She finally gets to her room, blushing a little at the thought of where those hazel eyes could've been while walking to her room.

Scott looks at Maya, smiles, and then looks around her room. He immediately notices the Stranger Things poster. He looks to the left and notices a BTS poster. He squints his eyes at that one, but doesn't question it and continues to look around.

Maya looks at the dark haired boy noticing he was looking at her room, at what looked like interest. Her room wasn't anything special; plain beige walls, dark brown desk at her large window, white tall bookshelf, and light purple drawers. And of a course an average comforter with colors that included green and pink.

"Cool room," he compliments once again.

"Thanks. So-so did you want to start reading?" She says sitting on her bed, in front of him and grabbing her novel.

"Yeah alright," Scott says suddenly remembering why he was even here.

The two sat down next to each other in a comfortable space between them, both opening To Kill A Mockingbird.

After a hour or so, Maya puts down her book. Scott notices Maya had stopped reading and he also puts down his book.

"You ok?" His thick New York accent coming out.

"I'm fine. I was just wondering if you wanted to take a break." Maya says not feeling too nervous anymore, due to sitting next to him for an hour.

"Definitely," Scott says happily getting a break from Atticus.

"Ok did you want to play 20 questions?"

"Sure, you ask I answer first?"

"Yeah, ok um first question. What is one thing you're proud of?" Maya questions.

"Deep." Scott says smiling looking towards Maya. He thinks for a moment. "I'd have to say my heritage. I'm Italian-American that's something to be extremely proud of."

Wow. Could this guy get any better? Maya thought.

"That's really great, that you feel that way," Maya says still in awe.

Scott chuckles softly and rubs his hand on the back of his neck. "It's nothing."

"It's not nothing. You don't see many people say who they are so proudly. I mean I do it. I'm Black and I'm proud."

Scott laughs. "You should be." He says with a warm smile.

"Alright, ask me a question," Maya claps her hands together.

"Ok, what is your absolute favorite place to be?"

Maya thought for a moment. She thinks about her home, but she also thinks about some of the lonely nights without her dad. However, she thinks of another special place where her was there.

"The Symphony. I remember when my mom and dad always used to take me when I was younger. I loved the sound of the instruments, all the different people, and the old vintage look of the theater." Maya starts to imagine her visits to the symphony and her father. She doesn't realize how long she's been doing this, until she feels a hand on her shoulder.

"Are you all right?" Scott says worried.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Maya look at him confusedly. She suddenly feels a drop of wetness travel down her cheek. "Oh gosh I'm sorry," Johnson starts to wipe her hands over her cheeks, furiously.

"Hey, hey it's okay." Miller grabs her hands and pulls them around his waist and engulfs her in a hug. "You're okay." He says. "I got you."
