*Tom's POV*

"It's over, Tom." She states firmly, but whatever she says next is blurred. I can't hear anything anymore except for my thudding heartbeat. I can't breathe.

"What?" I gasp out, thoughts racing through my head. I can't picture my life without her. I still love her. I'll always love her. She's caught me completely off guard.

"We need to break up," her voice cracks.

"Why?" I'm asking so many one worded questions today.

"You're always gone." She looks down at her feet, refusing to look up at me. I had just walked into our apartment with my luggage from a work trip, and she was standing there waiting for me, and then this.

"But I always come back—" I choke on the words. My heart is shattering. "P—please, love."

"Tom, it hurts." She's crying now, and I can't bear to see her hurt because of me.

"I—I—I...don't know what to do." I whimper pathetically. I just want to hold her and never let go. I pull her into a hug. She cries into my chest, and I feel my heart grow heavy. It physically hurts.

"I'm leaving tonight, Tom. I'm going home."

"What? No. I'll never see you again. Your hometown is in a completely different country. You can't go—I need you." It's then that I notice the packed bag at her feet. She's already made the decision without me.

"Goodbye, Tom." She says without looking at me. She picks up the bag and walks out. I'm too stunned to chase after her, and by the time my feet move, it's too late. She's gone.
