Chapter 32: The Wait
Mason, Lesedi, Aiden, Oliver and Noah sat in a single lined row in front of the delivery room – ragged and disheveled, in muddy clothing and weeds stuck in their hair.
Pablo was sitting next to Lesedi, his focus unwavering from the delivery room door in front of him.
Liam was inside with Kara, either for moral support or to be her personal punching bag – whatever the moment required.
The atmosphere outside was tense and the silence, awkward.
Unable to take the hostility anymore, Oliver walked over to the vending machine.
Aiden
'Jesus, this didn't pan out the way I planned', I ruminated as I face palmed myself.
The quietness of the room was unexpectedly interrupted by a scream. It was Kara. Her screams continued thereon, making the stay more unnerving than anticipated.
Pablo whimpered as he laid down beside me.
"So much for the miracle of child birth", Lessie remarked as she placed her head on my shoulder.
"I love you", I whispered – for no specific reason – at this very moment, I just needed her to know it.
She lifted her head up and looked at me in puzzlement.
"I just felt like saying it", I smiled as I pecked her lips and subtly pressed her head back on my shoulder. It felt nice having her there.
"Truce?", I turned my focus towards the voice. It was Oliver, holding two cups of vending machine coffee in his hand while pointing one at me.
For the first time after we got to the hospital, I got a chance to take a good look at him, face to face. He was knackered – his face bloody, his left eye swollen.
Shit, I did that.
Behind the bloody bruising, his face showcased what seemed like regret and discomfort. It probably took a lot out of him to leave his pride aside and call a truce – especially when I was the one who threw the first punch.
"You better get that checked out, mate", I said as I took the coffee.
He just shrugged as he sipped his.
Turning around I pecked a kiss on Lessie's forehead, "Lessie – baby, give me a sec...I'll be back soon okay?", I said as I handed her the cup of coffee, "Here, have some", I offered and got up from my seat.
"C'mon, you need stitches...and so do I, I think", I smirked, suddenly finding this situation somewhat hilarious as I signaled Oliver to follow me to the ER.
Lesedi
Logan rushed into the hallway in a half-tucked shirt and what seemed to be sex hair.
Mason stood up from his seat and speed walked towards the vending machine as Logan crouched over in the attempts of catching his breath.
"Good night?", I asked cheekily.
"Isn't it always?", he smiled mischievously.
I noticed him take a quick glance towards the vending machine and swiftly shift his attention towards the delivery room. One blink and I would've missed it. There were clearly some unresolved issues between him and Mason, and I bet his appearance right now was not helping the situation.
"How's Kara doing?", he asked, his voice filled with fret.
As if on cue, Kara's screams filled the silent walls of the hallway once more.
