plot

a young boy/girl ends up in a world they're unfamiliar and strange to them. then after roaming for some time, a much older boy/girl comes across the smaller child and takes them under their wing. although they're located in a world that revolves around a more "magic-like fantasy" concept, they ultimately spend their time trying to avoid whatever demise awaits them.

extras

for the initial concept of this plot, i thought of it as a young kid (around eight through ten) and the older boy/girl being in their twenties. it's up to you how this happens if you stick with the original idea, but the young kid is transferred to a different world. the type of fantasy world they get put in could either be a more mature form of fantasy, or something that seems much more like a child would imagine.

another little detail i thought of originally is that once you're transported into the fantasy world you don't get older unless you return back to the real world. but your body doesn't  jump to how old you should be in reality depending on how long you were gone. you return the age you were when you first left.

you don't have to stick with this setting (obviously). you could have it take place in real life, except a different situation. for example, you could have some type of apocalypse going on, where the kid is found and taken care of by the older person they meet. or, the two main characters are in the same situation where they both share a trait that people from a high power don't want in their society, and that they come across each other and try to avoid being captured.

the story doesn't have to have a familial type of relationship. it can take place between two people who are around the same age.

going back to the "places in a fantasy world concept," i thought of it as the older boy/girl being familiar with the place they were in because they lived in that fantasy world. then, they find the child as a newcomer, and take them under their wing because the child has no one else to go to. things start off well with their older main character showing the kid around and helping them get comfortable with everything, then stuff hits the fan and their world goes to chaos.

the reasoning behind all of this happening is up to you. while thinking of this idea, i portrayed the settings that take place in real life, as actually happening and that's just how reality is. so there's really no huge backstory with them, just reason why the main characters are trying to stay hidden.

for the fantasy concepts, there was three larger meanings i came up with. the first one is that the child is actually transported to an alternate universe in a way that many other people have. everyone who is there in that world used to be from reality (unless a child or someone was born there after people had arrived). they all share one similar thing that happened in their past, or trait, which brought them to this new place. for example, people who come from families of highly negative parents are transported here because it's supposed to make them feel like they can live a life of enjoyment instead of whatever they are going through. the ruler of this world was transported there first and shared the same problem. because they couldn't find a way out (or became content with the world) they wouldn't give anyone else who came there escape, and force them to live their for the rest of their lives if they wanted to leave. this is because they didn't want to feel abandoned again.

for the second "bigger plot" is that the kid is dreaming, and this either just a simple dream, or it's major foreshadowing. foreshadowing to the point of "they just meet this person in real life and begin to look up to them," or the kid does end up having to be given to someone else, or their are already alone and dream of someone ultimately caring for them, which becomes a reality.

the last thing i have for this is that everyone in the fantasy world including the main character (the child) is dead. the story is just the kid go through their short lived life once more in a twisted way, as that's what all the major events that happen throughout the story represent. the older main character is just there to help guide them through the process. this could be the reason why no one in this "world" ever ages, is because they are the age they died at. this world is mainly directed towards people who died prematurely. either way, the story could in the end be about the child coming to terms that they are dead (with the older main character confirming it in the end for the child and the readers). everyone in this world tries or tried to run from the fact that they are dead.
