The boy and the girl talked everyday on the phone.  After school and before and in between.  The friend watched as the girl picked up calls at lunch, knowing instantly who it was from the look on her face.

The friend demanded the girl everyday to introduce them.  The girl didn't understand why, but it was to approve of him.

One weekend, the girl and the boy lay down on a patch of grass at the park, side by side, hands entwined.

The girl talked about meeting the parents, and about meeting her friend.  The boy didn't say so, but his nerves juggled at the thought.

Instead, he replied with a simple Sure.

The girl watched him Really?

He said Yeah.  My mom's been dying to meet you too.

This was a lie.  He hadn't told his mom about the girl yet.  But anyways, it made her smile.  And that was all that mattered.

Thursday the girl arranged.

Thursday the boy agreed, and then wondered how he was going to break this news to his mom in two days.
