Chapter 7

As dawn approached we got ready like the other lords and made our way to the execution block. We were forced to wait for an extra hour out in front of it before the royal family arrived and the 'prisoner' was brought out. Trainer looked at me, I looked right back and winked. He gave me a confused look back. Thank good the royals weren't paying attention.

He was placed in front of the execution block. Even forced to his knees Trainer didn't show his fear. I positioned myself to get ready to move.

"Governor, would you please read us the charges placed on this man," the king said. The lord governor stepped forward and began to read a list of charges, most not even belonging to him. When he finished, they called the executioner forward.

"Any last words sir?" the prince asked Trainer. Trainer nodded.

"Tell the Neko that no matter what he should protect those he cares about most. And also tell him to get as far from the murdering king as possible," he said. My eyes widened but I was going to do as he said. I was going to protect those I cared most about, Helix at my side.

The axe was raised and I moved. It swung almost as soon as it was raised but I was already in front of the blade. It smacked into my claws. I grinned a feral smile. This was going to be fun. I had expressly made sure that nobody had seen my claws until that moment.

"Lord Rift. Why are you protecting the prisoner?" the prince called down. I turned my smile onto him.

"I'm only doing as he said. He said to protect those I care about. So I am. Oh and sorry if doing the first one kept me from doing the second," I said, looking behind me. Trainer grinned. This was going to be fun.

"Well, it seems you've been discovered. Oh well. Best to go down swinging as I say," Helix remarked, as we had planned. Since I had been training him when he pulled out the sword he wore on his belt and swung it normally, as if it weighed nothing, I wasn't one bit surprised. Instead I grinned. Helix was someone I cared about but he could take care of himself now.

I broke Trainers shackles with one swipe of my claws. When I was younger Trainer had told me it didn't matter what I called him because his name was what he was. Now, after all those years of helping me, it was my turn to help him.

Helix stood back to back with us as a bunch of guards surrounded us. The rest of the lords looked at us sadly and the prince and king looked on in sadness and curiosity. It seemed nobody understood what I had said.

The guards attacked. I dodged. I knew Trainer was watching out for himself and that Helix would be fine. I whipped around, slashing guards left and right. I was having so much fun beating up the help that I couldn't keep my tail and ears hidden. My fangs had also made an appearance and even as I twisted to avoid a blow I could hear the gasp of shock from the prince and the choking from the king.

"Stop the fight! Stop the fight! We don't want to injure the Neko!" the prince called. I stopped moving. Helix moved to stand next to me on my right and Trainer moved to my left.

"How did you get Lord Kingsfords crest ring?" the king bellowed. I just grinned at him.

"I won it fair and square when I murdered him. Although, the only reason I did so is because he was going to murder us so yeah," I responded. The king nodded his head.

"You may take your trainer with you. You are to remain a lord under me. And if I hear that you're doing what Lord Kingsford had done to his people then you will be imprisoned yourself," the king said. I bowed to him.

"As you wish my lord."

The three of us decided to leave that day. We were ready in a half an hour and just left. Trainer had wanted to stay longer so as to make sure everyone else knew we had left but would catch up with us later. I was just glad the king had agreed not to kill him so long as he served under Helix and I.

Helix and I rode through town in our carriage and when the people saw the insignia they walked out of the way. It seemed they were used to being screamed at as the previous lord rode by.

Instead I just waved at them. I hadn't hidden my ears and tail so when they saw them they seemed even more shocked. I just smiled and turned away.

"It seems that you will make a very good lord Yukinari. I'm very lucky to be your second," Helix whispered into my ear.

"And I'm lucky to have you as my mate as well," I muttered back shocking Helix to the point that I was able to close the windows and slide onto his lap. When he did notice I was purring as I looked at him. Thank you secondary sex system!

"Helix, I'm fifteen. I'm younger than you. Please start acting like my superior. This way nobody will suspect anything," I growled softly. Helix smiled and nodded. I leaned in and kissed him.

"Helix," I muttered. He smiled.

"Get some sleep Yuki. You'll need it," he whispered to me. I smiled and snuggled up to him. He was the perfect blanket for my cold body.
