After I got off, it was dark and I had to go pick up Anne. After I picked her up I'd be able to walk home and get my car for grocery shopping but in the meantime I was stuck walking home.
I clutched my switchblade in my pocket as I walked and almost had made it home when I heard shouting, "Hey, what're you doing walking all alone?"
I turned and saw who it was, "Two-bit! You scared me half to death!" I'd met Two-bit a few times when he was around the boys.
He just laughed and walked towards me, "Headed home?" I nodded and he started walking with me.
"You know, I'm a big girl and can walk home all by myself." I laughed lightly as he continued walking me home.
He shrugged, "Just doing a favor for a friend."
I didn't think we were close enough to be considered friends so I had to wonder who he was referring to, "What friend is that?"
He shrugged, "Don't worry about it."
I stopped at Mrs. Sue's, "I gotta stop here. Thank you for keeping me company."
He looked confused, "I could've sworn he said you lived down the road further."
I shrugged, "I have to pick Anne up first."
It clicked and he suddenly understood, "The kid, right?" I nodded and went to the door to pick her up.
When I returned to the road with Anne, Two-bit was still there, "Don't you have to get home?"
He shook his head, "The arrangement was to make sure you got home safely if I saw you out and you're not home yet." I sighed but continued walking.
"Would you mind if I held her?" He asked quietly.
I smiled and handed her over. He smiled at her, "Hi, cutie!" He continued talking to her for the rest of the walk.
When we got to the house, I took Anne and buckled her in the car.
Two-bit looked confused again, "I had to walk you home just for you to leave?"
I shrugged, "We have to go grocery shopping. Do you want a ride home?"
He shrugged, "I guess."
