A second chance

Chapter 4

"Mommy are you ok ?" I coughed up bile, finally catching my breath.
I leaned against a tree and slid down my sweet pups coming to my side whimpering in distress.
"I'm ok babies mommas ok. Momma just felt a little sick that's all." Morning sickness could go fuck itself.

We had been traveling about two weeks to my rough calculations, the pups were building strength and stamina as we went, and so was I, but it took a toll on me faster than the pups.
I had managed to travel into a camp site of humans, and I might have stolen their map but at that point I didn't care. I came to find out that we were in Washington, somewhere. It was hard for me to pinpoint where when it had been years since I had to read anything. But I was able to find the nearest town and that's the direction we were headed. I want going to stay there either, I didn't know if Macons pack was in Washington as well, but if it wasn't I wanted to find a pack, if any to take us in.
I knew it was a huge gamble, most packs hated rouges and I didn't want to be in another pack after what I had gone through. But my babies needed a safe place to grow up and I hated to admit it but I couldnt do it all myself. As much as I hated myself for it, I knew them growing up in a stable pack environment was better than being rouges.

Evee crawled into my lap and hugged my tummy, I ran my fingers through her dark hair.
"Pain gone mommy ?" Evee looked at me with puppy eyes and I just couldn't not smile.
"Mm, thank you sweetness," I kissed her forehead sweetly and she smiled.
"Ok, let's keep going ok babies ?" I slid upwards, it was getting difficult to do.
"Mhmm !!" I pulled off my shirt and shifted down to all fours, pausing to lick Ange who was wrapped close to my chest.

I watched my pups shift and nudge their clothes into their bags, they liked being able to carry their own clothes. I waited for everyone to give me an ok and we set off again, it wasn't much fun, that what they would tell me, the pups didnt like traveling for so long without doing anything. I just rolled my eyes and told them not to complain or they'd get sore butts. As it was it was getting harder to walk the larger I got, at some point my belly might hang to the ground. It was heavy and I had a sway when I walked, so I got tired more easily. Now I'd take the sleeping most of my pregnancies over this, because this bugs the shit out of me.

"Mommy what will we do when we get close to the thingy ?" I chuffed and licked Casey's ear.
"Its a town sweet boy, and I'm not sure. It's been a long time since mommas had to read a map, but from the way I see it it should only be a couple more days ," I helped Jude back on his paws when he stumbled, having to listen and walk.

"What do we do when we get there ?" I sighed and shook my fur out.
"I'm not sure sweetness, hopefully find some place to stay before mommy pops again." Evee hopped over a rock a shook her tail in victory I had to laugh.

"I just want mommy happy ," I paused, pulling Casey to my chest with my paw.
I licked his face purring loudly, his little tail was going a mile a minute and he vibrated happiness.
"I love you my sweet baby boy, all I want is for you and your siblings to be happy. And I'm damn well gonna make sure you do ." I gave his head a firm lock and then I let him go to continue walking.

We traveled over the course of an hour, I kept the pace fair so that the pups wouldnt tire out too quickly but we had to keep up with good time.
"Mommy what's that ?" I looked a head and my body twitched.
A road. I cautiously trotted towards the road, my pups trailing after me. I looked left and right, sniffing the air, it smelled chemically, it didnt smell natural. It made my nose crinkle and my nausea came back.
"This is a road babies, this helps humans get to different places ," my pups sniffed at the road, their noses scrunching as well.
"Smell bad momma. Thingy bad." Jude sneezed and tumbled back on his bottom.
I chuckled and licked his face.
"I know pup, I don't like the smell either but if we follow this we might find a town to go to ," Ange wiggled his tiny face from my chest and sniffed the air.
I nuzzled his head as he sneezed, purred lovingly into his downy fur.
"Keep close to the road but not on it babies, in case cars come. Stay close to momma." I sniffed both directions and the smell of humans was stronger going north down a hill.
I slowly kept barely in the tree line, keeping my eye on the twisting road. My pups kept up with me zipping under and around my legs chasing each other and tugging on tails and ears. I kept my eye on them and gently nudged them away to a safe distance away from the road. An occasional car passed by, but they were few and far between. I kept pace for another two hours before I caught the scent of humans. I then finally saw at the bottom of a hill and small town.
"Is that place we go momma ?" I nuzzled Evees head with a loving lick.
"Yes sweetness, that is a human town." I led the pups back into the tree line.
I sat my pups down and let them rest, I gave them baths with my tougne and checked for injuries.
"Alright babies, this is important for you to listen to mommy ok ?" My pups turned their attention to me and listened, their ears up.
"This is going to be like undercover ok ? Humans dont know about us, they think we dont exist. So we have to act like humans for a little while. Which means we can't shift for a while once we get into town alright ?" I watched them nod.
"When we get close we have to shift and put on the clothes I have for you guys, nd you have to stay as close to me as possible so you dont lose me ok ?" Dian shuffled over and nudged my chest.
"How long will we stay mommy ?" I snuggled him closer.
"I'm going to try to see if they have a better map for us sweets, we need better directions." Casey leaned against my leg whimpering.
"What if bad men come to us mommy ?" I growled and pushed my babies closer.
"If bad men try to hurt you mommy will fight as hard as he can, if that happens you run to find someplace safe. If someone approaches you when mommys not with you you dont talk to them and you find another adult you feel safe with to find me. Ok pups ?" They whimpered shivering but nodded their little heads.
