Betty had only slept for half an hour when she woke up because someone was screaming. She tried to figure out who it was only to realize she was the one screaming. Her throat hurted and she closed her mouth. The nightmares were back and she was wide awake. She sighed after yet another half an hour. She didn't dare go back to sleep so she silently walked into her sisters room. She stopped and looked at the bed where her sister once laid. Where she found her lifeless body. She walked inside and found one of Polly's favorite teddybears. She took the huge bear in her arms and hugged it as she walked back into her room. She hid her face in it and cried. The next time she looked up from it the sun was rising and she sighed.
"Are you ready for school?" Her mom asked as she walked down the stairs. Betty nodded slightly and ignored the growing feeling of anxiety. She just wanted to go hide and never see the sun again. She took a cup and filled it with coffee. Slowly she drank the hot drink as she watched her mom run around and fix things in the kitchen. Time seemed to move so slow and she sighed once again as she put the coffee cup in the dishwasher. She brushed her teeth, took her jacket and walked alone to school. Deep in her thoughts, trying to figure out if Jughead ever really loved her. She didn't notice when Kevin waved at her and went right past him without a word. She looked at all the kids walking to their classes and wondered if anyone of them knew how broken she was. And then she wondered if there was someone else who was as hurt as she was and if anyone else wondered if the other people could see their pain. The bell rang and she slowly walked to her class. When she entered the room she instantly felt a change in mood. Something felt off with the classroom and she tried not to look around. Instead of sitting in the front, as close as possible to the teacher, she went all the way back and sat down in a corner. Without noticing him. He glanced at her a few times, tried to figure out if she was okay. Even though he knew she wasn't.
"Today you will work in groups. I want you all to analyze the drawing I gave you last lesson and discuss what happened to the girl. Write a text and send it to me." He started to point at all of the students who were supposed to work together. And when Betty looked up her eyes met the teacher's as he pointed at Betty, Veronica and a boy with raven hair and a grey beanie. "You'll be the second group." He said and Betty watched as the boy turned around. She already knew who it was. She had known for a few seconds. And he definitely knew who she was. When Betty's eyes met his she quickly looked away. Jughead stood up, took his bag and sat down beside Betty. Veronica turned to the two of them and smiled.
"So, turtledoves, let's start." She took the drawing from her purple purse. Betty bit her lip. She was going to have a breakdown. Soon. She couldn't just sit there and pretend like nothing had happened. Veronica looked at Betty and then at Jughead and then back at Betty. "What's wrong?" Betty shook her head as she tried to fight the tears that burned behind her eyes.
"I-" She said as she looked at Jughead. Who didn't give her any attention. He just stared at his phone. Ignoring what was happening around him. Her lip was trembling and her hands shaking. She looked at Veronica and then back at Jughead. "He..." She stood up and ran out of the classroom as tears started to fall down her cheeks. She felt as if she couldn't breathe and gasped for air. She rushed outside of the huge building and hid her face in her hands as she leaned on the massive brick wall. "Damn it." She whispered. "Damn it. Damn it." She kept whispering as she pushed her nails inside of her palms. The instant pain calmed her down and after a few minutes she finally felt as if she could breathe. The door flew open and Betty wished, prayed, hoped that it would be Jughead. Veronica walked outside and Betty's heart sank. She looked away and wiped away her tears.
"Betty?" She said. her voice was filled with worry. "Hey, what's wrong?" Betty turned to Veronica and looked her in the eyes.
"Jughead...he..." She started to sob as she told Veronica everything. How Jughead had been wasted, how he kicked her out, how he got drunk again, how he told her that he only fucked her to show how slutty Northsiders are.
"I'll kill him." Veronica said as Betty was done with explaining what had happened. "Seriously, I'll fucking kill him. How can he even say those things?" Veronica almost yelled. Betty shrugged and Veronica hugged her. "He's an ass." Betty nodded.
"Yeah, I guess." It was her only reply. Because she was still so madly in love with Jughead.
