Andy was given up to a Brothel at young age and escaped only to end up in the possession of bad pirates. Before they could touch her, the crew of the Blue Phoenix raided them and the Captain (You) had saved Andy after realizing she was fighting to keep the bad pirates off her.
The Captain of the Blue Phoenix offered to teach Andy how to defend herself and offered a place to live amongst the crew.
Andy had learned a great skill of navigation when she planned her escape from the Brothel and learned from what she heard upon the other pirate ship.
