nineteen | cafè talks

"so where first cherry blossom?"

"I was thinking we could grab some food, I saw a little breakfast cafe- last night," I didn't want to think about the previous nights events and put it right in the back of my mind

"Sounds good to me, I could really use some coffee right now," I chuckled at the boys remark, nodded in agreement and continued walking, leading the way through the pouring rain

The tiny café huddled despondent among the huge city buildings. Washed out under the overcast sky, it hunched in itself, fighting against the drizzle. Hundreds of people rushed by it, outside on the crowded street. The half a dozen customers glanced up as I swung the door open, heralded by a blast of cold wind. Unlike the outside, the interior of the café was warm and cheery, with bright lights and colourful walls. The customers returned to their conversations as the door swung closed behind gilbert and I and the cold breeze was forgotten.

"So what you thinking?" I faced the menu and scanned looking for something to eat
"I like the sound of the bacon and egg butty and then maybe the berry smoothie," I turned to query what the boy would be ordering "I think I'll have the Avocado toast and a mocha, yeah"

We both found ourselves a small table in the corner and gilbert offered to go and order so I could stay seated, at first I refused and said I could do it myself but I gave in once I saw the line.

"Alright I won't be a minute then cherry blossom" he smirked as he joined the line at the counter and I pulled my phone out.

"Oh dear" I didn't even want to look what he posted, I mean I posted something yes, but I had the decency to turn the comments off and the photo wasn't even that much.

"Oh well whatever" I scanned through the comments cringing and feeling rather uncomfortable, the word 'shirbert' appeared a rather lot and of course I knew what it was but I avoided it and moved on. silly people.

I decided that since my arrival in New York I hadn't actually contacted Diana so I dropped her a text and waiting for a reply, she of course, replied all lost immediately and asked me to call her

tell me why you're so tired
or ill ask him myself

gilbert he's ordering

and he knows why you're
tired which can only mean
that you're tired because of
something you did together,

Gilbert finally walked over with a recite in his hands, "I've got to go di, gils finished ordering, love you bye"

"How is she?" The boy inquired as he sat opposite me

"Why do you care?" I was surprised by the boys question, I knew they were friends but why did he care? wait why did I care that he cared???

"She's my friend am I not allowed to care or something?" he chuckled obviously not taking my question too seriously, thank goodness.

"Er no, course you're allowed to, she's fine her and Charlie spent the night together, anyway did you order the food alright?"

"Yeah I did and finally, Charlie's had a crush on Diana for weeks now, good for them," he looked up at me now and then out the window, out knees brushing as he turned.

I looked towards him, and for the first time I noticed the small things, his freckles scattered like stars across his nose, the small curls in his hair and the honey in his eyes

"yeah good for them"
