"Elizabeth, the town is having a Sokovian music festival tonight, do you want to go? We know how much you love music," Elizabeth's mother asked her.
"Yeah!" The child hopped up and down in excitement. Her father laughed at her reaction.
"Alright kiddo, I'll go ask when the festival starts," said her dad as he wandered off.
"So how have you been enjoying our vacation, Eliza?" Elizabeth's mother asked her.
"I'm having fun! It's pretty and there is so much music here!"
"Definitely better than New York," her mother agreed.
While the two waited for her father, they strolled through the outdoor market. A sparkling diamond necklace caught her mother's eye.
"Oh this is beautiful! How much does it cost?" While her mother and the man were discussing the price, Elizabeth's mind wandered elsewhere. In the distance, she heard the faint beat of a drum. Music! She can go see beautiful colors! Without hesitation, Elizabeth dashed off in the direction of the drums. She swiftly weaved through the crowd until she accidentally ran into a boy about her age. He had dark roots with blonde strands of his hair that cling to his forehead. Standing next to him was a brunette that looked to be his age, maybe they are twins.
"I'm sorry!" Elizabeth apologized.
"It is ok," the twins parents looked down at her, slightly concerned.
"Where are your parents?" The mother asked.
"Oh. My daddy left to ask a question, and I got excited and ran away from my mommy. I should go back now. Bye!" Before the adults could offer to help her find her parents, she zipped off into the crowd of people. She ran to the booth where her mom was looking at the necklace, but she wasn't there anymore. The marketer running the booth spotted her.
"Your mother was just looking for you. She went to get the police to find you. Maybe you should wait here until-" Elizabeth ran off, desperately looking for either of her parents. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she frantically looked left and right.
"Mommy, Daddy!?"
"Hello little girl, are you lost?" A tall man cooed at her, she nodded in response. "What's your name?"
"E-Elizabeth..." she said between sniffles.
"Elizabeth... Yes, there was a woman calling your name just around the corner. Do you want me to take you to her?"
"Yes... Yes please," the man took her hand to lead her through the crowd.
"Just this way," the two turned the corner, exiting the market place. They were approaching a street with a car pulled over next to the curb. "She was just here... Would you like me to drive you to the nearest police station so we can find her? The police know everything."
"Mommy... Mommy said not to get in cars with strangers..."
"Alright, I'll rephrase it. Get in the car you little brat," he grabbed her and threw her into the trunk, unaffectedly by her frantic kicking. Despite her screaming and crying, she could still hear the man speaking to someone as the car drove off. There must be another person in the car.
"That's the fourth one this week! Who knew the market would be such a great place for recruiting future soldiers."
"I told you, kids get lost there all the time."
