Second Chance

Chapter 20:

It's been two years since we last checked in with the team, and they've had some new members and sad news.

Beast Boy, Wonder Girl, Tempest, Aquagirl, and Lagan all joined the team. Wally and Artemis also retired, and the second Robin died.

Percy had just celebrated her fifteen birthday, and was now dating Anthony. Anyway, she was in Atlantis. There had been a medical crisis, the Sea Scourge. A deadly disease that once plagued Atlantis, back during the rule of King Atland.

Nobody knew how it returned, just that it did. Already so many Atlanteans had fallen to it, and many more where falling prey to it. She had been volunteering at the healing facility all day, and she felt helpless. No sorcery or medicine was working, and she didn't want to watch another person perish.

She left the facility and headed to the surface world, to the cave. It was a weekend, so she could find the team at the cave. Tula and Garth were there, they had been with her father and Kaldur researching a cure.

'Recognized: Antiope B09'

She appeared in the cave, and saw everyone there. They saw her and smiled, she gave them all small smiles. She really couldn't do much more, she was too worried.

"Percy, what's wrong?" Asked Megan, and she sighed. Before she broke down, unable to keep her mask up anymore.

"It's horrible, so many have died." She sobbed and Megan pulled her into a hug, and listened to the distraught princess tell her everything.

"Percy, I am sorry. Why don't we look through the Justice League database? To try and see if a cure is there." She suggested, and Percy agreed. She cleared her face, then walked to the computer thing and started researching. Ignoring how tired and dizzy she suddenly was.

That is, till the room tilted and she was on the ground. She couldn't hear too well, it was all muffled. Her vision was also blurred, and everything wasn't defined. Then, she blacked out.

"Percy!"

Megan slid next to the girl and checked for a pulse, it was fast and erratic. Her pulse shouldn't be this fast, "somebody help!" She screamed as she felt the girl's forehead, only to recoil in shock when she felt it basically boiling.

"Princess!" She looked and saw Kaldur, Tula, and Garth all sprint over to her. They looked extremely worried, "what happened to her?"

"I don't know, she was walking and fine one minute, the next thing I knew she had fallen and passed out."

Tula felt the girls wrist and looked up with fear shining in her eyes, "her pulse is racing." Garth tried to use sorcery to see if he could get a reading but nothing happened, "my magic isn't working." Magen looked down, "I felt her forehead, and it was as hot as the oven when I'm baking."

Kaldur took in a sharp breath at that and shared a look with the other Atlanteans on the team, "she has the symptoms." Kaldur breathed and Tula furiously shook her head, "no. Kaldur, if she has it then that means the entire royal family has it." Garth looked sick, "there is nothing else she could've contracted. The princess has been helping the victims of the sea scourge since the outbreak, she has been around the virus for ages."

Tula then bolted to her feet and ran through the zeta, "Kaldur, what's going on?" He sighed as he quickly picked up Percy and ran to the zeta, "our princess has fallen ill. She has the sea scourge."

With that he left the cave, leaving behind one terrified Martin alone to tell everyone the news.

When Manta heard that the princess had fallen ill to the Sea Scourge, he knew he had to take matters into his own hands again. To ensure that the princess and prince of Atlantis survived this. So, him and two of his men broke into the palace. They made their way to the Princesses room first, where the fifteen year old girl was currently resting. They entered her room, and made it to her bedside.

Princess Percilla was asleep, and she looked so ill. She was scary pale, and had sweat rolling down her face.

"Why aren't we just letting her die?" One of his lackeys asked, and Manta looked at him.

"The families of the heroes we do not harm, it only makes them unable to handle. The Light has a plan called Doomsday, it's where the families of the Justice League are killed, but we don't use it because then we'd just be singing our death warrants." Manta told him, before he looked back at the princess and injected her with the antidote/vaccine. The Sea Scourge was a tricky disease, once your immune to it, you can never get ill by it again, so unless you've been vaccinated against it, you're more likely to die from it.

"It is done, the princess will recover. It will be like she only had a nasty sea flu. Now we must move on to the prince." He Said, then they did the same thing to Prince Nereus. Before they disappeared into the ocean, where they would watch as chaos was brought.

Two days later...

"I bring news on the princess's condition," all heads in the cave snapped up at the sight of Aquaman. "Is she gonna be ok?" Megan asked and he nodded, "yes. Both Percy and Nereus caught a horrible case of the sea flu, their fevers just broke and both of them are on the road for recovery." Everyone sighed in relief, but Nightwing noticed something.

"There's something else, isn't there?" Aquaman nodded and let out a sigh, "unfortunately while my children were spared from the Sea Scourge's deadly embrace, Tula wasn't so fortunate." Everyone gasped and some of the girls hands flew to their mouths, "she passed away this morning right when Percilla's fever broke. Nobody realized she had it till she was found dead beside Percilla this morning, she was at peace."

Everyone was shaken by this news, they'd just lost another team member. Again. How would they go on if everyone kept dying?

Oh my gods! I am so sorry it took so long to update this. I've just been distracted by school and got stumped on this chapter a while back, I apologize for taking forever. I will try to update more frequently but I am still a high school student and I've been loaded with a shit ton of work because my SAT's are coming up and I really need to study for those. Please just bear with me and thank you for sticking with me all this time.

Next chapter I was thinking bout doing a sacrifice on the team. I love my Percabeth couple, but I feel like it could add a lot more depth to the story if I kill off Wise Guy. I've had the idea to pair a different guy on the team with Percy for a while but I just couldn't break up my super couple. Though I am going to now, and please don't hate me.

But when I do kill off Anthony, would you rather it be super fish (ConnorxPercy) for the couple, blue fish (JaimexPercy), or sea bird (DickxPercy)?

Just comment on which you'd rather see and I'll do that. Just know that the relationship is gonna gradually form over time, not immediately rebounding after his death. Percy is gonna be depressed for months, and not willing to love for about a year after I kill off Anthony.
