February 2017 | N O W | Unexpected Surprise

2 Days Later
"Girl! Ohaji made reservations at Yukoma for breakfast, took me to the mall to get an outfit for tonight, and dropped me off to the spa just to find out he'd already made me reservations. And they welcomed me to the door with my favorite! Champagne!"

I was sitting in my chair at my salon, listening to Kellie brag about her new boyfriend that I had yet to meet. She seemed so happy and that put me in a good state of mind to know that she was finally being treated the way that she deserved to be treated. We had the same hopes for each other and the fact that she was happy with him, I was more than happy with him too.

All of the women in the shop were in the holiday spirit, but I was more so ready to get home to see what Sterling had planned.

Unfortunately, he had to go show several houses to a new client and would probably be home later tonight. His job was very demanding and he couldn't just let down new clients over a holiday that we sort of celebrated every single day. Although we always celebrated Valentine's Day together, this was the first time that I didn't receive anything from delivery and it had me in my feelings a little bit.

"Well, I'm glad you're enjoying your day. I just finished up with a client and I'm currently waiting on my next one." I say, trying to hide the mini-jealousy that I was obviously sporting on my face.

"Thank you, so much, sis." Kellie chimed into the phone. "Has Sterling sent you anything?"

            I sighed into the phone.

"I haven't received anything just yet." I admit.

"Aw...well I'm sure he's got something up his sleeve." She giggled into the phone with pure excitement. "He's been the perfect guy all along and I'm sure this little situation won't stop him from being that perfect guy now. Just watch."

I was beginning to think that Kellie was right. Sterling was always up to something, but for some reason, today just didn't feel like one of those days.

While Kellie kept chiming on and on about Ohaji, I was looking around my shop at all of my employees in the holiday spirit. A few of them had a bouquet of roses at their stations, accompanied with gift bags and Valentine's Day balloons. They all looked so happy with big smiles on their faces, tending to their clients and being in their own little world. I honestly grew a bit jealous because when I looked at my station, there was nothing there but supplies. Just an empty station looking like a drought for the day.

He's busy today and I understand. I kept telling myself.

I dismissed my call with Kellie when my 11 o'clock client walked through the door. It took me about a good half an hour to braid her hair down and an hour to sew the hair she'd purchased down before styling.

I was finishing up the final touches on her hair when I heard my name being called.

"Ms. Vee, where's your stuff at? Your man mad this year?" Theresa joked.

I threw her a playful eye roll because this was how we played with each other from time to time.

"No. He's just been busy today. He's had a lot of last minute appointments due to this holiday." I say.

            "He what?"

Hearing a deep voice, I turn toward the entrance.
