He woke up in pretty much the same place he fell asleep. Looking around, he could see that several of the others were already sitting up. He looked at his hand, the blackness had coalesced into a name that sank into his skin and disappeared. They think that one's bad, what a joke. He suppressed a growl at it, it really never knew when to shut up.

"Are you okay?" the lead girl asked.

"Yeah. How's everyone else?"

She looked over the rest of the group, some were still way out of it. "I don't know. I think so." Her eyes were scared. "Nothing like this has happened before."

"How are your hands?" he asked.

She glanced down at them, then held them out to him. Her palms were clear and unblemished. "I remember they were black. But there's nothing there now. Was that part a dream?"

"I don't think so." He looked down at his own hands which were already clear but held a secret beneath the skin. Did she have another name now like him or had she been overlooked in the end. Maybe she wasn't chosen, maybe she was still clean.
