A fight broke out between Mary's parents, Adam and Emily. This time though Mary was in the living room not upstairs and the only way to get upstairs was to pass her parents. She waited to see if they fighting would subside sometimes they would be short, but no it was a real bad fight and it got heated pretty fast. Her parents never physically abused each other only abuse by words. She decided to try to sneak pass them, she knew she had to get away. She started to walk pass them but her father grabbed her by the wrists.

"Where do you think your going?" he asked angry.

Mary froze, her father never hurt her before, at least not physically.

"Well! answer me!" he yelled.

Mary didn't respond fast enough for him. Adam grabbed a plate and smashed it against her arms. She screamed in pain. The plate shattered on her arms, cuting her everywhere. Then Emily grabbed her daughter and pulled her away.

"Don't you dare touch her!" she yelled.

Adam slapped Emily hard across the face.

Mary started to run, Adam grabbed another plate and threw it and it shattered on Mary's back. Mary ran even faster in pain up the stairs, she threw her door shut, locked it and moved her desk against the door. She laid on her bed in pain, as blood spilled from her cuts.  She burst into tears. She then heard footsteps come up the stairs. She heard a bunch of noise and then the footsteps went back down the stairs. She then heard the car start, she looked out her window to she her mother get in the car with a bag and speed off. Mary's mother had left her and there, but had never taken a bag before. She was just waiting for her father, but he never came up the stairs. She then got up and realized she had to leave. She grabbed a bag and threw things in it: A blanket, clothes, money. She then threw shoes on and a jacket. She didn't know where she was going to go, but knew she had to leave. She threw her school backpack on, which hurt her back, but she tried not to think about the pain. She then grabbed her other bag and was about to leave down the fire escape (they lived in New York city in a nice neighborhood). She stopped though and ran to her desk and pulled out one drawer. Inside she found the piece of paper that John left, on it had an address on it, she hoped this would help. She assumed it was his address, but wasn't sure. She hoped it was though. She then put it her pocket and snuck down the fire escape. As she was leaving she heard her father banging at the door. She didn't look back. Once at the bottom, she ran down the street two blocks, before catching a cab, it was dawn and the streets where busy, so she blended in. She hoped in the cab and gave the man address.

They arrived at the address and Mary got out. The building was a buzz in kinda thing. She buzzed number 4, the number given on the paper. No one answered, she buzzed again, no answered. A girl then came to do the door and was leaving.

"Who you looking for?" asked the girl.

"John Waterson?" said Mary, "He lives here right?"

"Ya he lives in number 4, is he not answering?"

"Nope" said Mary

"Ok I will let you in, but don't tell anyone I did so" said the girl

"Thanks" said Mary.

The girl smiled then left.

Mary made her way up the stairs to number four. She knocked on the door, but no one answered. She decided to sit down, she was in pain and was really tired. She waited there, but no came, she soon fell asleep with her head against the door, all curled up.

John, Danny, Justin, and Charlie came up the stairs loud as ever. They had been out at a party, but weren't  drunk. They planned on playing poker tonight so they had to be a little sane. They were laughing and talking as they made there way up the stairs. When they came to the fourth floor. John froze and so did everyone else.

"Who the hell is that?" said Justin laughing.

"Mary?" said John confused.

Charlie, Justin and Danny looked real confused.

"Mary" said Danny

"She's my sister" said John

Now everyone was more confused.

John went up to her and bent down in front of her.

"Mary" he said as he shook her awake.

Mary woke up in a start.

"John" she said happily.

"What are you doing here?" he asked

"I can't go back John, its to bad, please don't make me go back" said Mary.

"I won't make you go back" said John, "Lets get you inside" he grabbed her stuff.

His friends followed. John sat her down on a stool.

"What happened Mary?" asked John

"Things only got worse when you left, mom was never home, dad was never home, but when they were the fights were horrible. There was never any food. Tonight though the fight was real bad, the worse one ever John. I was in living room and tried to sneak up stairs but dad.... he...um" said Mary

"He what?" asked John.

"He got mad and grabbed me, I could answer him faster enough so he..." said Mary.

"He hurt you" finished John, "Where?"

Mary rolled up her sleeves her arms where cut up pretty bad.

"Mary!" said John.

"He smashed plates on my arms" said Mary.

He touched her arms.

Mary jumped in pain.

"Im sorry" said John

Mary had tears in eyes

Meanwhile Justin, Charlie, and Danny sat in the living trying to figure what the hell was going on.

John hugged her. But Mary winced in pain to.

"My back to" she said.

He sat her down, she stood in front of him. He lifted the back of her shirts there where three long large gashes. He gulped.

Now Mary was really crying.

Justin, Charlie, and Danny saw the gashes and were shocked. They still didn't know what was going on.

John picked Mary up and trying not to her hurt and carried to the bathroom. He just looked over at his friends.

How was he going to explain this?
