The next day was a saturday and John had a lot of thinking to do. He was thinking that he was going to have to take custody of Mary, but had no clue how to do it. He had a long conversation with Charlie who had slight background in law.

"Dude, I don't even no where to start" said John.

"I would first go talk to a lawyer" said Charlie, "I would do it soon before CPS gets involved, because that will only make things worse."

"CPS" questioned John, "Shit I have never even thought of that."

"Listen, you will probably get Mary, but it will be at battle" said Charlie, "I mean they will take Mary away from your parents no problem and especially your dad after what he did and your mom gone and everything. But giving custody of a eleven year old to a twenty two year old brother, thats going to be the problem."

"Well who else could it be" said John, "A stranger?"

"See thats what I don't get about CPS" said Charlie, "They wants what best for the kid and then they send them to strangers who nothing about them, but they have family willing to take them."

"I don't get it either" said John, "Well I need sometime to think, Im going to take Mary to central park  for awhile. You all can come."

"Sure why not" said Charlie.

"Hey Mary, come here!" yelled John

Mary came down the hall. She had stayed in the small guest room.

"You want to go to central park?" asked John

"Really" she said shocked

"Ya" said John

"Ok!" said Mary, really excited.

This was the first time in a long while that Mary had any fun at all.

They headed to central park, it wasn't that far from their apartment so they just walked.

"They need to do something more with central park" said Charlie

"What else do you want them to do?" asked John laughing.

"I don't know" said Charlie.

"Im excited, I haven't been anywhere except school and home for well a year or more I guess I can't really member" said Mary.

Charie looked at John and John looked at Charlie.

This was sadly true and John hated that fact.

They made it to the park and Mary ran to the swings.

Charlie and John sat on a bench nearby.

"This kills me" said John, "She hasn't had a true childhood."

"Its hard to imagian a kid taking care of themselves, doing nothing but school and work" said Charlie.

"Ya it is and I could have stopped that, I could have stopped it before she got hurt, I could given her a childhood she should have. She lost all her innocence way to young" said John.

"She hasn't lost it all and you can change it now" said Charlie.

"I just hope its not to late" said John.

"John!" yelled Mary

"What?" said John back

"Watch this" she said

"Im watching" said John.

She got to the highest point and the swing and jumped off, landing on two feet.

John laughed "Same old Mary, fearless"

"Thats good though" said Charlie.

"I think she learned to be" said John.

"Good Mary!" said John

Mary smiled back at him.
