Song: The night we met - Lord Huron (slowed)

——————————————————————-

Draco felt as though his heart had been ripped from his chest and stomped on by none other than Voldemort himself.

He shakily removed his hands from his mothers grip, and backed up deliberately until his back was resting upon a chain fence. Tears were steadily streaming down his face, and he gripped the fence so strongly his knuckles were turning even whiter than they typically were.

"I am going to kill him." Draco muttered softly, sinking down to the floor against the fence.

"I'm going to kill him." He said a bit louder, wracked between sobs. He continued repeating it, until eventually he was screaming it at the top of his lungs with a hoarse voice.

His mother rushed over to him as she saw his distress, and begun to softly sing and rub his shoulder in attempts to calm him down. Eventually he screams of remorse died down, and it was just uncontrollable sobbing.

Harry was sat in bed, his books open and his eyes running along the pages, memorizing the information. Out of the blue, he felt an uncomfortable tighten in his chest, and feelings of sadness, anger, and distress flowed throughout his mind.

He grabbed the glass of water that sat at his bedside, and chugged down the liquid. He tried to steady his breathing, his hand on his chest as he took in timed breaths. "1..2.. in , 1..2.. out." The words 'I'm going to kill him' were echoing throughout his mind.

What in Merlin is going on?

About 15 minutes later, Draco had calmed down and he begun to breathe steadily again.

"Listen sweetie. I must leave soon, or he will find us. I can apparate you back to your dorm, but I'd like to say a few things first." His mother spoke quietly. Draco nodded.

"You are a Malfoy. Though our ancestors failed to put our name under a good reputation, I know that you are more than capable than changing that. Promise me, Draco, that you will reach the goodness in your heart that your father always lacked and do incredible things. You don't always have to side with the dark, my dear. As long as Lucius is in Azkaban and Voldemort is unaware of you, you're free. Do you understand me Draco? You're free." She cried softly.

"Yes mother. I understand." He sobbed, wrapping his arms around his mother. "I- I can't live without you mom. Please don't go. P-please." He choked on his cries and pleas.

"I'm sorry honey. I really am. I want nothing more than to be here for you and to guide you, but I simply can't. You deserve a chance. I passed mine up years ago. Be stronger than me, son. Please, do that for me. Okay?" She smiled sadly.

"I'll try, mom. I'll try." He whimpered.

"I have to go now. I'll apparate you back to your dorm. Just know, right before I.. well.. y'know, I'll write you an owl and send it to you. By the time you receive it, I'll be gone. Keep the letter as a reminder of me. It'll help." She rubbed her sons back soothingly.

Narcissa held her arm out for Draco to grab, and they were back in his dorm in a snap. She looked pleasantly surprised to see Harry, but decided against saying anything.

"Goodbye, mother. I love you so much." Draco bawled, engulfing his mother in one final embrace, keeping memory of every feeling so that he would never forget how amazing her loving hold felt.

"This isn't goodbye, dear. Think of it as a see you later. I love you too darling." She spoke sadly, before dropping her voice to a whisper. "Make me proud, Draco. I know you can."

And with that, she was gone.

Draco broke to the floor with sobs, his eyes red and puffy and his cheeks rose red. He curled up around himself, and bawled into his knees.

Harry walked over to him, placing a supporting hand on his back and rubbing soothing circles. Assuming Draco wasn't in the mood to talk, they just sat there. Draco sobbing, and Harry comforting him nonverbally.
