November 1952~ 23-25 Weeks

I usually hate birthday parties. That's mostly because I wasn't popular enough to have one but it's the opposite for my Sister. Growing up, Prim was able to blend in with society and never got bullied even though our Dad was from the Cherokee because her blonde hair and blue eyes along with her fair skin, helped her with blending in. She never got bullied or hit by the teacher because of her background like I had and it relieves me to know that.

I look around at the room of children, including my Sister. It makes me smile at Prim's bright smile, it was a long wait for her to get to thirteen. She wanted to be a teenager so badly that she finally got it. I rub my belly and get a little kick in return.

It was just two days ago when I first felt the baby move. It consumed me with terror because it's finally all real that I'm having a baby. Peeta was there luckily and held me as I cried, reassuring me that it's all going to be okay. It calmed me down eventually but it still scares me when I get an unexpected movement or kick, I have to stop whatever I'm doing to take a few calming breaths if it happens when I'm alone, I didn't realise just how terrifying it all is.

"Thank you so much for the cake, Peeta!" Prim smiles while hugging her Brother in-law. Peeta had insisted to make Prims cake for free, he made a yellow primrose flower cake with '13' written in cursive. It was so beautiful that we didn't want to cut into it but I wanted cake so it got cut

"No problem, Prim. It was a pleasure to make it" he smiles, hugging her back before she hugs me

"I can't believe you're so far along already. I'm going to be an Aunt!" She squeals happily, I chuckle and tuck a stray blonde lock behind her ear

"And you'll be a fantastic one at that. You can even babysit for Peeta and I" I reply

"I'm so excited! There's finally going to be a baby in the family" Prim smiles, she scurries off after being called by her friend. I turn to Peeta and hug him, suddenly wanting his warmth. He kisses the top of my head and rocks us slightly

"How have you been feeling?" He whispers against my ear

"Okay, I guess. My feet and back are sore though. This baby really likes stealing all of my energy" I sigh and he chuckles

"I'll go get our coats and we'll go home. It's getting late anyways" he says, I nod before letting him go get our coats. While he goes I'm approached by someone I haven't seen in a while, my best friend, Gale Hawthorne. We hug once he reaches me but it's awkward due to my round belly

"I'll admit, Katnip. When people said that you were pregnant and married to Mellark. I thought they were just saying that. Seems like they were right" he says, I raise my eyebrow at him

"What exactly is that suppose to mean?" I ask

"Just that I remember you saying you were never getting married or having children to anyone who comes from a family who put our ancestors through everything. Suddenly, Mellark gets you under some kind of spell" he replies

"That was a while ago, Gale. Just a note, his name is Peeta not Mellark. Besides, I fell in love with him on my own terms. Being my friend I thought you'd at least be happy for me" I scowl, crossing my arms

"How can I when you're forgetting where he comes from?" Gale scowls back at me

"Peeta isn't anything like them. You'd know that if you talked to him or got to know him" I snap at him, before Gale could reply back Peeta comes over with our coats

"Everything okay here?" Peeta says, eyeing Gale warningly

"Everything's just peachy" Gale grumbles before walking off. Peeta helps me with my coat and rubs my back
